BG Devotion vs Mono Black Devotion

Deck Help forum

I'm trying to decide between the two, but I can't seem to make up my mind.

My meta is pretty split evenly; it has a mix of everything.

What do you think?

Mono-Black is probably better, but Golgari would be cooler, haha.

Golgari has a better removal suite.

why not make two decks? :P but otherwise if you cant find one with a bigger advantage pick the one your gonna have more fun with. One of my friends does a mono black hand destruction which is pretty crippling on any strategy so If I had to pick in terms of winning id probs go that but green black can still be devastating if you go scavenge and Corpsejack Menace

Golgari has Abrupt Decay Golgari Charm Putrefy Vraska the Unseen Gaze of Granite in addition to all the black removal spells. Mono-B doesn't have many ways to deal with enchantments or artifacts.

I would make yourself a MBD deck, replace your removal suite with B/G removal suite instead and balance your mana correctly for Golgari.

So this is a counterargument I've read against the green splash:

I quite disagree with the green splash here. You have 9 sources that produce green. This means that on turn two with 9 draws, theres only a 0.795 chance that you draw a green source. On top of that, 5 of those sources can't be immediately used if played on turn two, and the others cost you two life. This means that the two drop splash cards are more like 3 drops, which isn't that great against most aggressive decks. Also, 20% of the games any green card will be dead in your hand. Sure, in the longer games against esper/UW etc. the green cards are way better, but you certainly give up % points against the aggressive decks like boros and monoblue.

I think he makes some good points. What do you all think?
