Black creatures you can return to the battlefield from the graveyard?

Deck Help forum

I have 4x Bloodghast and 4x Reassembling Skeleton , but I was wondering if there were any other creatures that were easy to pull back from the graveyard. I built a deck around gravepact and butcher-of-malikir, The Butcher's Pact. I love the deck, but it is a bit too slow.

Sorry, that should read as, Grave Pact and Butcher of Malakir .

Demigod of Revenge comes to mind, though he's probably a bit expensive (in dollars, not in mana cost).

Unearth , Vigor Mortis and Dread Return are all solid black cards that can return a creature to the battlefield.

Oh, and also - Mortician Beetle would probably like to come to this party.

Would Mortician Beetle be a better choice than a vamp with a Blade of the Bloodchief ? I am curious since the beetle has been mentioned to me before, but I am reluctant due to vamps getting 2x the counters from a blade.

That's a very good question...that I don't really have the answer to. The benefit of Blade is that you can move it around, so multiple creatures can get counters in a given turn, whereas the Beetle can attack on its own - if you're somehow left with no creatures on the board (board wipe, perhaps) the Blade will sit there uselessly. The Blade also triggers off any graveyard entry, not just sacrificing.

Hmm. Offhand I think I'm a bit more inclined to go with the Blade, but I think it's close.

Okay cool, I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something, and of course I did, I missed the fact that beetle was only sacrafice. It is still a fantastic card though, essentially it is a 1/1 with a blade attached, almost. But for 1 mana that is a great creature. My deck is over 60 cards though and I don't think I can work in another creature. It does make me want to build an another eldrazi deck to utilize the beetle though.

Thanks guys! I have it narrowed down to Nether Shadow and Nether Traitor , just not sure which one is more versatile. I am leaning towards traitor.

Nether Traitor is better for a gravepact deck.
