Breaking Blightsteel Colossus
Deck Help forum

I read and article that was talking about using Quicksilver Amulet and Grand Architect to get Blightsteel Colossus on the battle field. I felt that this would be a very fun deck to build and I tried to put one together. This is what I came up with Quickly Steel. I need some help figuring out what goes well with the three main cards.
Tell me what you think!

The best way to get out Blightsteel Colossus in standard is to cheat it into play via Shape Anew and cards such as Blade Splicer and card:Master's Call (cards that produce artifacts but are not artifacts themselves). This way, you can ensure that your Shape Anew always hits Blightsteel Colossus . A U/W Splicer/Shape Anew strategy with Venser as a plan B is pretty solid, as the splicers themselves are actually very good creatures in their own right.

try to mix it up with the red deck, run a bunch of one drop creatures as well as Infernal Plunge and Geosurge and some Priest of Urabrask . if you got the perfect hand you could turn 4 blightsteel

Shape Anew and Quicksilver Amulet are about the same speed (unless you use Inkmoth Nexus for Shape Anew ), however, shape anew is blue so it requires you to have blue in the deck AND requires you to have three cards for the combo (for example, Inkmoth Nexus + Shape Anew + Blightsteel Colossus vs. Quicksilver Amulet + Blightsteel Colossus ). Im staying with Quicksilver Amulet .

Not quite. You still only need two cards, the difference is Shape Anew can be used on a plethora of cards and reliably tutor up Blightsteel Colossus , while Quicksilver Amulet requires that you have the Blightsteel Colossus actually in your hand. It makes sense, would you rather have 1 specific card and 1 of many redundant/replaceable cards in your deck to combo off, or 2 specific cards in your deck? Also keep in mind that the amulet is useless on its own, while a Blade Splicer token, Wing Splicer token or Inkmoth Nexus are good beats in their own right.

yes but that "plethora of good cards" aren't that great TOGETHER, while a plethora of control cards are! (plus controlling the battlefield helps to postpone the game long enough so that you have both in your hand. in fact, there is a 1:2 chance that you will have one of the cards in your starting hand anyways.) if you are worried about getting the blightsteel in your hand, a card that can be pretty useful is Treasure Mage ...

If you're going for a control theme could I at least suggest splashing white or black for their appropriate board wipes?

That sounds like a good idea... Personally, I don't like getting color-screwed, so ive been kind of sticking to mono-color decks, but splashing some black or white board wipes could work. I know for red there is Blasphemous Act and sometimes Slagstorm , for black card:Black Sun's Zenith, and for white Day of Judgment , so, honestly, a U/R color base could be pretty good for a Shape Anew deck...

if you are going with board wipes, why not Divine Reckoning ?

Why not try a BANT oriented Blightsteel deck? I always love a god curve of Turn 1: Birds of Paradise , or card:Avacyn's Pilgrim, Turn 2: Blade Splicer , or card:Master's Call, Turn 3: Shape Anew into Blightsteel Colossus . It has decent consistency, as there are multiple cards that fit as "key" cards (Example: Blade Splicer or card:Master's Call both work.)

Diving reckoning works too! granted, they keep their scariest creature, but its pretty handy against a pesky Shrine of Loyal Legions ...
green would give you the advantage of ramping... hmm... what do you think of this deck, I just made it: Quickly Quicksilver
I argue that Quicksilver Amulet is better than Shape Anew , but if you disagree, I also made this deck just now: Staying In Shape. you can get a Blightsteel Colossus on turn 3 if you get an Inkmoth Nexus out.

I've made five standard decks around Blightsteel Colossus . Unfortunately, the combo with blight and Quicksilver Amulet doesn't perform well in an aggro-based strategy. I have found it goes much better with control cards. So check out these decks I made and maybe they will give you some ideas, and by the way, the red one is doing the best right now.
