Budget Cards to Counter a Rakdos The Defiler?

My friend and I play edh a lot. My decks include Melek, Izzet Paragon , Omnath, Locus of Mana ,and Brimaz, King of Oreskos , but his only deck is around Rakdos the Defiler . He loves to give it double strike before swinging at me. I'd love to hear your advice on what would give me a line of defense from it. Sure, Cancel , Essence Scatter , Windstorm , and Sphere of Safety are good, but I'd want to "convince" him to make another deck.
What (cheap, but open to ideas) cards for (R/U) (G) and (W) would you recommend me use to shut down Rakdos the Defiler , but still maintain fun in the game?

As the Rakdos the Defiler requires damage to cause the sacrifice you can put in some hate cards like Story Circle which is not only useful against Rakdos but any friends he happens to bring along in the color chosen. Rune of Protection: Red and Rune of Protection: Black bring the added benefit of cycling. Vedalken Shackles can steal the Rakdos for yourself if you run enough islands in the Melek, Izzet Paragon deck.
Spot removal like Path of Exile, Curse of the Swine , Plummet (if he runs other big flying creatures). Lots of cards to deal with him.

white has most of your answers. Ghostly Possession and Karmic Justice or Martyr's Bond and are all good ones.blue's mainly gonna be counter spells and bounce. red is mostly gonna be things like bolts and Act of Aggression . Green has a few good cards, such as Tajuru Preserver and Beast Within . you really want to piss him off? combine your green white together and run Sigarda, Host of Herons .

Thank you guys so much for the help. Remembering I have a Prossh, Skyraider of Kher edh deck, I threw in Gorgon's Head , then proceeded to wipe his board with Deathbringer Thoctar . That felt really good.
That aside, I am currently making a Cromat edh deck (our group almost always plays Commander.) I'm definitely throwing in Tajuru Preserver and Sigarda, Host of Herons . Those almost completely fit my expectations! At the same time, Story Circle and the Runes of Protection are very liable. Not to mention that in the upcoming deck, I, on a whim, decided to throw in all the Shards of Alara and Guild Charms in it, so Selesnya Charm made it in as well.

Selesnya Charm . My favorite thing to use against my friend's rackdos deck.
