Burn + Life Gain + Mill to much going on or does it have the potential to work out?

I was thinking about creating such a deck in legacy last night note that I haven't thought of anything to put in it yet since I haven't played burn in years, never could get a life deck to run right, and never played mill at all but it sounds different to me and wouldn't mind trying it out if you guy's think it's doable also any suggestions on how to get started would be great if it's feasible, thanks.

It isn't. Not only does that approach divide your attention between three strategies, it divides your attention between three strategies that have no synergy with one another. Mill is ineffective in competitive environments, as is life gain. Burn is probably the most viable of your options, but it requires a dedicated deck to pull off properly.

There are ways that mill and life gain can work well together but you need it to be extremely consistant and you need the right draws at the right time. Burn is always a viable option but I feel that you would need some strong creature base as well. Hellrider works well here along with some other hasters like Thundermaw Hellkite and Lightning Mauler with anything. Look for ideas by searching out Red Deck Wins. Just keep speed in mind. That thundermaw is a huge drop so maybe some type of mana excel toget him out early.

@capriom85: Those cards are all very limited when it comes to Legacy play. They aren't good enough in an environment that uses cards from throughout the game's history. Better creatures would be Goblin Guide, Figure of Destiny, and maybe Boros Reckoner (depends on your construction).

i think a burn/lifegain deck could work out, using Lightning Helix and such, mill and burn just don't work though

My bad...I skipped over the fact that this was a legacy deck. I retract my previous statements aside from the idea that mill and life gain can coexist. I think if done right you can stay out of harm's way long enough with the right cards to mill someone out. I don't play legacy myself but I do think that milling is milling no matter the format. As long as you can keep the life coming you will be able to mill your opponent out. My main idea here would be board wipes and spells like Unsummon and Cyclonic Rift to keep the creatures at bay. Use counters for the cards that you can't afford to let resolve and fill the rest with mill spells. Jace, Memory Adept works well here. You just need to get his -0 off 2 or 3 times to win the game by the to sulu drop him at 5 cmc with spells like Dream Twist and Thought Scour. The life gain would most likely come from things like a Sphinx's Revelation at the end of your opponent's turn and white spells to make the good wrath board wipes usable. As I said I am not a legacy player, so my suggestions for life gain may not be the best available but I do recall an older card that was quite simply "target play gains x life". I think it was white but I can't remember it's name. If I were going to gain life my go to cards would be Sphinx's Revelation and any lifelink creature that could swing for a lot...even a well placed Boros Reckoner can serve multiple purposes. It can defer attacks or be given lifelink to make use of its damage dealing ability.

basically as long as it's not burn and mill either one should work. I like the idea of a boros lifegain/burn deck, and if you can get a Boros Reckoner with some sort of lifelink, well I think you'll do fine

If lifelink is run, Serra Ascendant and Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant would be interesting cards to play.

Not in standard...what format is this deck for? I have a terrible habit of assuming it is standard unless they put up a blazing neon sign that says otherwise.

They said legacy up in the original post, so I'm assuming it's that.
