Hello all. This upcoming friday is my first ever constructed competition ( except for an FNM last april 2 weeks after i started playing where i didnt even know what half of my cards did), but more to the point, I am so nervous i might shit bricks.

I am playing with an American control deck that i made with slightly limited fundage ( hence the no Tamiyo, the Moon Sage and only one card:Sphinx's Revelation and such) which i named deck:who-needs-walkers.

I do have 2 Restoration Angel which i can put in, but i am not taking out both Isperia, Supreme Judge

I am totally panicking now and am asking anyone to help me in improving my deck in the short time i have left before competition.

thank you, and remember...

The most important thing to remember about playing your first real FNM is that Magic isn't about trying to win every tournament you play, it's about having fun playing a great game. You probably won't win all your matches this Friday, but that won't matter as long as you enjoy yourself and learn a little bit.

landgrafb's statement is probably the best advice available, even better than the actual decklist suggestions I made.

Play for victory and you'll be upset with every defeat; play for fun and you'll enjoy every win.

You're going to get absolutely destroyed. the entire point of that deck is the use of Tamiyo and Jace. Good luck though.

A friend of mine lays America control, but he doesn't have tamyo, he doesn't need jace, and he uses Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius and Talrand to make it aggro. Everyone thinks its a bad build, but he goes 4-0 nearly every week, so don't let people talk down to you just because you don't have the money for "better" cards.

Now, if you're playing America, I think Niv is a better choice than Isperia. As far as the tournament, don't be focused on winning, just have fun. :) Greet every opponent with a smile and always be a good sport and you'll be fine.

My friend won, and beat out all of the top tier decks one week using a 14$ deck. Budget doesnt mean anything. He had 4 Rares... Drowned Catacomb . It was an Invisible Stalker , Trepanation Blade , and a bunch of cheap enchants that buff stalker and tormented souls. It out aggro'd my Rakdos Zombies by a landslide.

Hey man, don't be nervous, but don't expect to clean house. Playing budget, your a bit limited with you reach, and can't play staples for your deck, so without those cards, you will probably lose the mirror match, and then there are those people running around with $800 decks sleeved in starcitygames sleeves, because there wanna-be protourers, and you will honestly probably lose to them. However, it gets easier as the night goes on, don't expect to get trampled every round. You get paired with people who have the same, or close to the same record as you. So by round 3, assuming your going 0-2, you will be paired with somebody else going 0-2, so you will probably walk out with one to two wins. Your Restoration Angel s, I don't think are really instrumental to this deck, but are excellent trade fodder. So maybe try and trade your more expensive cards on Friday for some of the staples for this deck. Some cards to try and trade for are Entreat the Angels , Steam Vents , Sulfur Falls , Clifftop Retreat , Snapcaster Mage ,Terminus , card:Sphinx's Revelation, Tamiyo, the Moon Sage , and Jace, Architect of Thought . And lucky for you you're on tappedout, which has an amazing trading community, so if you can't find any takers on Friday, put up a tradebinder and start trading away! But above all, have fun, and I really wish you wouldn't be stubborn about Isperia, Supreme Judge for starters, she really is a bad card, and I ran 3 when I went to my first fnm, and all but one game I was dead before turn 6 anyway, and then that one game when I made it to turn 6, I didn't have the mana. But between Isperia, Supreme Judge and Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius your getting yourself into a land prediment. With those cards combined, you need 2 red, 2 blue, and 2 whites, and your not running any shock lands, and not enough duals. That is going to be very hard to achieve, even with your Evolving Wilds . I think you should chose either niv or isperia and I think most people will agree niv is the better choice.
