Can I run Sphinx's Revelation in this?

Deck Help forum

I've put together this Simic deck and am currently running Urban Evolution as a draw spell. It's an okay spell but the deck empties it's hand fairly quick and it doesn't seem to satisfy the card demand. Having more lifegain is another objective of mine to give the deck more resilience. I don't plan on running Hallowed Fountain or Temple Garden but have 11 cards that can produce white mana.

So long story short: Can I cast Sphinx's Revelation effectively in this deck? Would you run it instead of Urban Evolution ?

I'd say yeah you could. But you may want to add in Hallowed Fountain and Temple Garden in place of islands and forests. Sphinx's Revelation shouldn't be too hard for you to cast with it only needing 1 white to cast, you having Axebane Guardian and Sylvan Caryatid as well.

But if i can make a suggestion. Run more creatures, less instants/sorceries/enchantments and put in Garruk, Caller of Beasts . He's incredible hand feed with almost a pure creature deck. also, Worldspine Wurm

If you go with the Sphinx's Revelation plan, you're going to need to up your land count. You'll also want to run Supreme Verdict . This would give you a really potent Bant Midrange deck. IIRC there's a Bant deck floating around really similar to yours that does all kinds of shenanigans with Prophet of Kruphix .

I probably wouldn't count Plasm Capture in your 11. One of the advantages of Sphinx's Revelation is its instant speed. Sometimes it's correct to main phase it, but that's rare.

8 is certainly on the low side, heck I get mana screwed out of colors occasionally in 3 color lists that have 15+ of each symbol. Now that's pretty anecdotal, but that's also before considering that as creature they are not guaranteed to stick around. You could maybe splash 1-2 off of 8 sources expecting that around Turn 8 that you reach a 90% chance of drawing it, but I think you'd be better off with consistency over power in this case.

I'm trying to avoid going Bant as I don't own any of the dual lands. I have to buy Sphinx's Revelation too if I end up running it. Supreme Verdict goes against my overall gameplan that requires me to commit to the board.

If I was to play Garruk, Caller of Beasts I would probably cut blue all together and play a green devotion variant.

Plasm Capture has worked real well in testing and I wouldn't mind playing Sphinx's Revelation on my turn if I needed the mana from Plasm Capture to cast it. Urban Evolution is a sorcery so I have to cast it on my turn as well.

I'm going to playtest with proxies tonight and see if I am able to cast it reliably.

Thanks for your input guys.

yeah green devotion with a splash of blue for Prophet of Kruphix I've seen it work. It's stupid good. flashing in creatures at your opponents end step to attack on your turn. It works very very well.

that way you dont need to run any lands you wont need, 4x breeding pool and 4x temple of mystery for scry. But you will need Nylea, God of the Hunt to help out giving everything trample.

In case anyone was wondering I played 3 games last night with the deck. I drew Sphinx's Revelation 3x and would have been able to cast it all 3 times. Looks like I'm going to have to come up with $80 and grab a playset.
