I recently dabbled in a deck using as many lifegain method as possible, while maintaining a solid board control and "voila". The deck is surprisingly powerful.

The main tactic is to declare a blocker and blink him from the battlefield before the damage step or return him to your hand with Saving Grasp. When those blockers either recall spells from your graveyard (Snapcaster Mage) or provide life when entering the battlefield (Cathedral Sanctifier), you can really start annoying your opponent. To add to the injury, Timely Reinforcements is just amazing.

So far, the deck has done extremly well against humains, reanimators, zombies and wolfrun ramp. The only deck I haven't tested is Delver due to the fact I can't reproduce the "mindgame" nature of the deck on my own.
