Colossus of Akros in Esper control

Deck Help forum

Posted on March 15, 2014, 7 p.m. by SandyDufresne

I really like Colossus of Akros and want to run it in my Desesperanza Esper control deck. Most games that I play with the deck last easily to turn 10 so casting him isn't usually a problem. My main concern is protecting him from sac effects. So, should I include more counter spells like Swan Song or should I add more bounce effects such as Voyage's End or Dramatic Rescue ?

Mutavault is a good alternative too. you can always man muta in response and sac it instead.

Don't shy away from him because of sac effects, because your opponents should not be running removal after sideboarding since you are running control, and if they have a lot sac removal anyways, you should sideboard in Jace, Memory Adept . See where I'm going?

Esper should not be about protecting your creatures, since it's a control deck

@SpaderAce: So, basically turn it into mill with Jace, Memory Adept and don't worry about protecting the creature. I think I can handle that.

@abenz419: Unfortunately, Mutavault is out of my price range. I could barely justify buying a Thoughtseize because I already had three.

Thanks for the input.

Well not a mill 100% of the time, use jace in the sideboard. Only in matchups that focus on killing YOUR creatures, like control. Against aggro and midrange, the Colossus of Akros is a good choice since it's huge and wins the game after a nice boardwipe if it's monstrous, but against control they will just find a way to exile or sac it, and so you may just want to take it out against them

sac removal is great against aetherling, i wouldn't be suprised if a couple of people would consider it.

Sac removal does nothing against AEtherling .... Sac a creature, "oh look, no creature to sac"

@Caraculiambro understandable and I can't say I don't blame ya, but I thought i'd throw it out there because it would require the least amount of actual change to the deck.

@abenz419: Cool. Thanks for the suggestion. If I get one, it'll go in for sure.
