I'm now to the format, but I'm really looking forward to making a commander deck. The problem is, i've only recently gotten into Magic and for now only have knowledge of cards in standard. Anyways, I really need help finding a General for my attempt at EDH. Right now, i think a would like maybe a Naya or Grixis oriented deck, but i'm open to any and all suggestions for generals and cards to go with them. And out of the Commander Pre-con's out there, which would you recommend? Thanks to any and all who can help me out! :)

Awesome. Well, first things to consider when choosing a general is colors. It looks like you want to use Naya or Grixis, so that's a definite start. The second thing to consider is it's mana cost. Even if your general is awesome, not being able to bring him out until turn 8 will be a pain. Finally, you should consider your win-condition. Do you want to win by general damage, or by deck win (Regular damage, milling, ect)?

There are some great Naya and Grixis Generals out there. A few of my favorite are Mayael the Anima , Garza Zol, Plague Queen ,Thraximundar , and Hazezon Tamar . These generals are a bit slower, but have a clear win condition and some awesome abilities.

Sticking with general Naya colors, dual color Generals are much faster, and sometimes worth it. If you wanted some dual-color Generals in the same color schemes, you should look into Brion Stoutarm , Captain Sisay , Ulasht, the Hate Seed , Wort, the Raidmother , Tolsimir Wolfblood , Wrexial, the Risen Deep , Rhys the Redeemed , and Jhoira of the Ghitu . These should be a little faster, but slightly weaker. You'd have to figure out what you want in a general.

Hope this helps!

For newer players a precon is probably the way to go. You dont have to spend a lot of money buying singles and you get some edh staples like Lightning Greaves and Sol Ring . What kind of deck do you want to be playing aggro, control, or combo?
