Constant Mana Screw

Deck Help forum

I have a 60-card Orzhov deck, consisting of 24 lands. I believe the number of lands are sufficient for my 60-card deck but the problem is, it keeps mana screwing. Usually, there will be only 0-1 land on my first 7-card draw and it has been costing me games in tournaments. There are times that I have to mulligan down to 4 cards!

I have tried table shuffles, sleeve shuffles, but nothing works. Is it just my rotten luck or have I done something wrong in the shuffling or deck building?

With 24 lands in a 60 card deck, you should average 2-3 lands in your opening hand. Mana screw happens, but if it's happening consistently, try a different way of shuffling. Another way to help with mana screw is by adding card draw. Orzhov isn't the best color combination for this, but a couple Sign in Blood s might help.

At the start of the night you could try mana seeding your deck (before everything starts). And then for the rest of the night pile shuffling might be sufficient.

You could also try upping the land count.

Pile shuffling is a trap, it does not actually randomize your cards. Doing it is fine, but DO NOT RELY ON IT AS YOUR ONLY FORM OF SHUFFLING. I pile shuffle once, then riffle or mash shuffle 6-7 times.

LINK THE DECK. Somtimes your cmc average is the cause. But shuffling does not always fix your problem. if you're you're uncomfortable add more lands. on like 26~lands you should never have to mulligan past 6.
