Corpsejack/Hydra Good but not great...

Deck Help forum

My first FNM with my Corpsejack-Hydra deck went well, I found some flaws that I would like some help fixing. Since the manacurve is high I need more 1-2 drop cards that are acctually useful to bide some time until I can get Desecration Demon and Vraska the Unseen or a Corpsejack Menace /Primordial Hydra out. Murder was also hard to get out since it required 2 swamps, know of any suggestions for better removal or some inexpensive 1-2 drop black/greens? I do have a playset of Lotleth Troll , would they be worth including? Any advice in general is appreciated.

For removal Ultimate Price or Victim of Night For one drops I can only think of Slitherhead and if you had Lotleth Troll you can discard Slitherhead then Scavenge.

Arbor Elf could help you ramp faster. Farseek as well

Are there any really good "cast from graveyard" creatures, my play usually works in this fashion: card:Jarad's Orders(pull a high cost card I need) and Discard Slitherhead -> run scavenge, continue play. Slitherhead is really only in there for that purpose, on turn two I try to play a Thrill-Kill Assassin if I can, I dont usually play Slitherhead on the field.

Gravecrawler but you need a zombie on the field for him, obviously. But now we're kind of running into a a divergence of strategies. You should be concentrating on one particular thing, like beefing up and protecting your hydra.

I think for now I'll try a set of Korozda Guildmage instead of Slitherhead or at least sideboard them. At least until I can afford some Deathrite Shaman

Instead of "bide some time" if your deck is built around casting 4 drops and up, just ramp into the mana you want, Arbor Elf , Farseek , keyrunes, etc. That's pretty much how mid-range decks operate.

There's really not going to be any one card, especially not in Green and Black, that's going to hold the board against a really aggressive deck. Ramping into Thragtusk , more of those would help, and huge guys will be stabilization enough when they hit the board.

Although even a 2 Swamp Mutilate will nuke most of the fast aggressive decks and most of your creatures are big enough to avoid it.

Though be wary of Desecration Demon , I've won so many games under that guy by simply saccing out and attacking past him. They really only work well when you can guarantee your opponents side of the board is relatively empty.

I agree with Slycne. You want to be ramping with the deck not just buying time into the late game. If you have suitable ramp you can hit your five drops as early as turn 3. The most notable ramp spells include, Arbor Elf and Farseek for your deck. Deathrite Shaman can also get there but you would have to find a way to put a land in the graveyard first.

Elvish Visionary may be useful, it can buy time as a chump block and also replaces itself so that you can accelerate a little through your library with a card draw.

I sideboarded some Arbor Elf , If I dont seem to be getting the land I need to ramp early enough I will throw those in and see how it goes. I am really anxious to playtest this deck with the Korozda Guildmage though. Btw thanks for all the help.
