Countering a land destruction edh deck

Deck Help forum

So one of my regular opponents favors land destruction for his edh deck. He runs red/black with Olivia as his general, and most of his creatures and spells focus on destroying lands. Usually he will begin comfortably topdecking me on land at around turn 3 or 4.

I was wondering, does anyone have ideas on how to counter such a deck? I have thought about using lands like Darksteel Citadel and Flagstones of Trokair , but I just can't seem to protect them at the rate he is destroying them. Even using the fetchlands like Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse and activating them in response to his destruction spells only seem to slow him down, not stop him.

I have thought about artifacts like Lotus Petal , Paradise Mantle , and Mox Opal , but they don't seem to be enough to provide adequate resources. I also thought about generals like Jhoira of the Ghitu to get my stuff out faster amidst low available mana resources, but I am still unsure.

I would appreciate any advice on how to beat him =)

Yes, thank you!! Terra Eternal is definitely going in the deck! Upon some more thinking, I believe Mox Diamond and Chrome Mox can also be of help. I suppose the elves that generate mana might be another option as well, I'll have to look into it.

Thanks a lot! Crucible of Worlds is also going in the deck! This is great, thanks very much for the great advice! Btw, I'm thinking that Life from the Loam could also be good to recover destroyed lands. I think I'll put that card on the deck list too!

Ah, thanks for telling me how to denote users in posts, that is very helpful! Also, nice ideas on Faith's Reward and Second Sunrise , I will definitely make room for them in the deck!

Btw, money is not an issue, so all suggestions are welcome! Scalding Tarn and Leyline of Sanctity look like great ideas as well!

I notice that there is a lot of white spells recommended that are designed for protecting lands, should I focus on using a white or white/green commander for the deck?

Now that's what I'm talking about! Sacred Ground is definitely going in! Boy oh boy, I can't wait to see the opponent's face when he sees the new deck built especially for him, LOL!

Skyshroud Blessing looks like it can be of help too.

Azusa, Lost but Seeking and Solemn Simulacrum also sound like good mana ramp, since I have ways of protecting my lands now. Farseek , Gem of Becoming , and Skyshroud Claim look like they can fetch lands well too.

This is in addition to mana rocks like Gilded Lotus , Thran Dynamo , Sol Ring and Darksteel Ingot too as alternate sources of mana!

you could play some mana dorks, so that you dont have to worry so much about a land or 2 dropping each turn. they would give you some more versatility too in other match ups.
