Hi, I'm NEWB and am looking to purchase a custom MTG Commander deck so I can "keep up" with nephew and his buddies. They bought custom Goblin and custom Dinosaur decks recently. My off-the-shelf Commander Wizard deck is getting destroyed, so I'm looking for something simple to run, but could go toe-to-toe with them. I don't mind spending some $$$. Any advice would be appreciated. Thx
Thanks.
Dragons and Dinosaurs seem simple to play, so I'm looking for something like that--but not those since my nephew has both. Any suggestions for things that are unique, pretty straight-forward to play, and is unique? I'm pretty open if you have suggestions...

Personally, I would recommend building your own deck, that is designed for your play-style and that works in your meta. That said, there are a number of great decks on this website. You can choose a commander, then use the search tools to find that commander as limited by your price range.
What types of play-style do you enjoy, and do you have any commanders you are particularly interested in?

Goblins are aggro, dinos are pretty aggro, so I am going to assume you want to go with something aggro to make the games interesting. Elves would be the way I would push you for that. Otherwise, I would say run a deck with a ton of board wipes and recursion, such as a karador deck. That should keep them at bay, and you will win the long game in those matchups

You could always look for a commander you want to build around first. After you pick your commander figure out your win cons, buid in a mana base and fill in the rest to synergize with your commander and win cons.

Omnath, Locus of Rage sounds like it should be great vs those decks and its a great first commander deck too. You can easily buy the individual cards from tcgplayer.com or whatever once you have a deck list. I'm sure there's some good budget ones one this site somewhere too.

You need to figure out what you want to play first. Then either check deck list on here or edh rec
