So after seeing Blightning + Bloodbraid Elf , I decided to put together a Jund deck. However, I'm on the fence for some card choices.

First one is Magma Jet over Lightning Bolt . Both of which would be used to get rid of utility creatures or pesky chump blockers. Do you think the scry would be worth it?

Second is Hellkite Overlord . Should he be the beater I use to finish out, or can he take a breather so Inferno Titan can win it? And if he does come out, what should go in?

Any other general suggestions would be nice, I'm keeping it as cheap as possible so I can feasibly build it. Lands will go in after I have the nonlands finalized. It'll just make the balancing thing a lot easier on me.

In almost all cases, Lightning Bolt is the better card. Ignoring the extra point of damage, it can be cast one full turn earlier, which is good against fast decks. "Bolt the bird" is an old saying referring to Birds of Paradise because it's commonly accepted that using your first turn to kill a turn-1 mana dork is a smart play. You can't T1 kill a mana dork with a Magma Jet .

Also worth noting, most Jund decks run fetch lands to smooth out their mana. I don't know how large the budget is for your casual deck, but fetch lands really limit the value lf Scry effects due to the repetitive shuffling of libraries. If your deck doesn't run fetch lands then Magma Jet gets a slight utility boost.

I'd still give the edge to Bolt, though.

Basically if I don't have the relevant nonbasics they're not going in. Since it's just a casual deck I'm not going to buy a great landbase if I can avoid it.

It also depends on what your friends are playing and how aggressive your deck is.

If the decks you're playing against won't punish you for coming out of the gate a turn late with your burn, and aren't playing anything with 3 toughness, then you probably don't need Lightning Bolt .

If the aim of your deck is to be aggressive, though, you want to be dealing as much damage as possible in as little time as possible. Squeezing every ounce out of your mana becomes more important than finding a card 2 draws earlier, and you may end up relying on that one extra point of damage.

Alright, I'll make the switch then. What about the Hellkite Overlord ?

Posted some thoughts in the deck page. I think he's very big, very scary, and really cool, but not fit for the current build of your deck. It'll just take too long to get to him without serious ramp.

Created another version with more ramp and using the Overlord as the finisher.

So far the new version seems more consistent and finishes faster than the original, but I'd still like more feedback on either one.
