i want to make a deck that will cream my opponents, i would like to make a control deck but i am a little iffy on how to make one. i am a newbie to magic and all the decks i have made so far suck big time. my friend went to Friday night magic and got creamed, the sad part is i can't even beat him. i was wondering if a detain deck would be a control deck and what in a control deck is the term "sterilize", if you run a control deck i would like your advise,

Well, in my opinion, I think I'd run cheap creatures that have detain abilities. When I think about detain I think the strategy should be a control-aggro hybrid. Detain there things so you can attack. I'd use cards like Azorius Charm to gain life. I would also run Render Silent . Keep (I don't know the card name) but it gives your creatures indestructible for a turn. Then you populate. Point is sideboard that card in case of board wipes.

a control deck takes control of the game slowly, would a deck that counters spells, takes control of their creatures, kills their creatures if needed, be a control deck or am i all wrong?

you've posted before asking users to help/build you "a good deck" and if i remember correctly a few of them mentioned control to be one of the more difficult styles to play. If you keep refusing to acknowledge peoples good advice, they will be unlikely to help you further.

As long as you get to choose what happens, yes. The problem with most control decks is that they are too slow. I've seen good slow control decks, but all those were pre-rotation. The problem is you can't control someone to death. You either use the control to buy time to mill them, or you do it to buy time to damage them.

yes it is a difficult style of play, but it is effective and i am tired of always being beat by everyone else, yes it is fun to play but once you loose repetitively, it get aggravating. so what better way of getting help than asking more experienced players like you. i do acknowledge peoples advice and take it under consideration, but i would like to finally make a well deck that can win for once. if you look at my wall i have deck but none of them are any good. i have looked up control deck and i just don't quite understand them yet. so do you see where i am going with this i am not refusing their advise, i just don't want to be "the weak one" anymore

I actually have a really cheap r/u aggro deck I'm running. It got 10 alive 1/1 tokens by turn 4. I haven't been on this site for a while but I do play people in tourneys. I haven't entered this one yet because it needs a sideboard. I just posted it today

cool i like it but i still would like a deck that controls the opponent every move, or at least pressures them. i am look at either a land lock control, gain creature control deck, or a prison control deck.

"red deck wins" is just a fast, mono-red deck that aims to overwhelm your opponent before they get a chance to have a board presence. there is a guy at my fnm that usually plays with a deck like this, and he frequently finishes in the top 8

my deck "I think your voyage is over." could be considered control, but it aims to mill or deal damage through Duskmantle Guildmage 's ability. AEtherling is also a popular control finisher

is a library depletion deck a control deck or does it have its own category?

"mill" ok any reason, well what about an infect deck, i assume that would be a pretty kick butt deck.

what is a prison deck and on your opinion is a control deck that kills your mana or a prison deck better?
