Hello,

My playgroup and I are going to do a $10 deckbuilding challenge and I wanted to get some opinions.

I'm not going to make this a stand-alone list, as 1) the pricing scale is not provided by tappedout and 2) I would like to get a more finalized product if I put it on this site at all

The list is as follows:

4x Gurmag Angler

4x Looter il-Kor

4x Lay Bare the Heart

4x Doom Blade

3x Diabolic Edict

4x Accumulated Knowledge

4x Opt

4x Mana Leak

2x Essence Scatter

1x Negate

2x Bonesplitter

$9.82

Three questions:

When do you need the deck list?

What format is this for?

Do you have an archetype in mind?

(Sneaky 4th question, the pricing is star city games any condition cards? And doesn't include basic lands)

I am interested in helping in the challenge as this is very much my jam.

Next I will fit in an infinite mana combo and try to make a storm deck work.

captainamerica, your deck seems low on pressure and has only single target interaction, it will die to other more tuned $10 decks. I would go for a mono black zombies list and still play the anglers if you want to play a black deck.

For more info you can look at decklists of Commander's Quarters as they have a preddty good selection of ultra budget good cards. If your friends are running cheap bad decks then your list is fine (although I would add a boarwipe or two), if they are going more competitive go combo.

There are plenty of 2 card combos that fit the budget (Midnight Guard+Presence of the gond, Safehold elite+Ivy lane denizen...)

Another option is to go red deck wins and try to outpace them (goblins might be worth it as they tend to be cheap)

I would say to look at pauper and copy a few things - An UB control deck is very possible, but you need the right shell. Unearth + Phyrexian Rager , Undying Evil or Abnormal Endurance + Augur of Skulls or Mulldrifter to get ahead on cards.

Hey, consider Brainstorm , Thought Scour , Foil and Wonder ?

I feel you need more enablers to get cards into your graveyard quicker for Angler. Scour is a draw, but the reason to play it with Angler is because it puts cards into your graveyard. Foil lets you discard two cards, an Island and something else while also countering your opponent's spell. This interaction is played in Pauper Dimir Delver which also plays Angler.

If you're trying to win with Angler then Wonder can help give it flying and Wonder wants to be in the graveyard. Brainstorm is a powerful budget card and has nice interaction with Scour since you can draw three then put two from your hand back on top of your library then Scour those cards into your graveyard. Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse are basic land fetch lands that put a land into the graveyard for Angler and give you a shuffle effect for Brainstorm. This interaction is also played in Pauper Dimir Delver.

Here's an example Dimir Angler using these suggestions.

$10 Deckbuilding Challenge - Storm

Everyone, I thank you for your input. simplebricks provided the drake-storm deck, which seems insanely fun to pilot. I think I will run a version of it. If you would like to continue with input, the link is above.

Thanks!!!
