Descent into Madness
Deck Help forum

I have a full playset of the card, Descent into Madness and want to make a deck based around it. I need help. It doesn't have to be a standard deck, I know it won't work in standard, but surely there is some way to get use out of this card

Wait that could do realy good. The deck would have to try and stall to like, 6th turn to get that ball started, and then have to sit there for longer to make a big difference, but imagine the amount of muster counters on assemble the legion whe I finally get rid of Descent into madness. I feel like to would be a heavy control deck. Hmm. gonna have to really look into this. now. Thanks for sparking an idea

If you pair the above combo with Cathars' Crusade , you can have the token you keep from Assemble the Legion grow to epic proportions. Just make sure you play Assemble, then Descent. Otherwise you'll end up exiling a permanent every turn.

Holy smokes. Ok I'm gonna start the prototype for this, and post the link here. I think the toughest part about this is going to be 1. stalling until I can start on the enchantments, 2. land

I wouldn't go for Cathars' Crusade on top of everything else as that is already too many 5 mana enchantments.to worry about and once your opponent has no permanents, 1/1s are all you'll need.
Why not include Rakdos Keyrune , Boros Keyrune and Orzhov Keyrune ? You'll need the mana fixing for a wedge-coloured deck.
Fortunately White/Black/Red are the best removal colours. Oblivion Ring , Lightning Bolt , Doom Blade , Terminate , Duress or Despise ...you have plenty of options to stall your opponent. Wall of Omens would also work nicely here.

Or he could go Parallel Lives and add green for acceleration.

If you go the green mana ramp into Chromatic Lantern route, mana shouldn't be a problem. You can get the lands and lantern out turn 3 at the latest, and have the enchants start dropping turn 4.

Sorry, make that turn 2 for the lantern. I thought it costed 4 mana.

Make suggestions in here guys. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/the-legion-descends-into-madness/(I forgot how to make the link to the deck)
I do kinda want to make this standard now since it seems possible.

Why go four colours? You'll need a helluva nonbasic landbase to make that work, because one can't expect the Chromatic Lantern s to do it all for you; that would make the deck expensive! Besides, with ramp added the deck has even less room to actually defend itself with. The keyrunes should be enough, remember they double as creatures in a pinch. Parallel Lives is not needed, Assemble the Legion again should be fine on its own once the opponent has no permanents,

The Legion Descends into Madness. Just enclose the tagline in double brackets.

Thank you for doing that. And thank you guys for great suggestions so far. Keyrunes are a good idea IMO

And pookypuppy6, 4 colors isn't that hard. Farseek will help fetch the shocklands for the mana fix, and mana dorks make great chump blockers once you get out the first few cards. Chromatic Lantern is just in there in case things don't go quite right, e.g. not getting the ramp needed in your opening hand.

Well it's not hard with shocklands, but I was under the impression that this would be a casual deck; pulling off a sort-of slow-acting combo strategy involving two 5CMC enchantments isn't very efficient Standard wise. Thus, I was considering that the shocklands may be out of reach in terms of budget. Playing W/B/R is fine because the removal options allows time to be the mana-fixer rather than card slots. Besides, there are the Gates.

It may not be very effecient, but I'd like to try it. I at least want something made for this playset just laying around

Assumptions aren't for the best. Either way, the deck can either be played control or ramp/control up to the point of getting the enchants out. The gates aren't really viable in any format unless you use them with Amulet of Vigor so they come in untapped, otherwise they just slow you down.

I tried it out with Endless Ranks of the Dead and a bunch of zombies. It was standard and it worked pretty good when I got it out there. I probably would have played that build competitively if I had a playset of Descent into Madness

I was thinking about Endless Ranks of the Dead and zombies too, but never built it. Also Assemble the Legion too. For that I was thinking Hellrider might fit with the legions. Very interested in this topic.

Assemble the Legion + Descent into Madness perhaps?
