more and more at fnm i'm seeing a deck archetype pop up that gets worse as it goes on devotion decks.for black devoition i have found my way it but red green devotion is killing me i think if i can shut down Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx i should be able to derail alot of these decks are there any non basic land hate cards in red or blue for standard at the moment
also here is my standard deck if you would like to check it out mizzium steam juggernaught
the main weakness of the black devotion decks is their lack of answers for non-creature threats and their reliance on a small number of powerful creatures to win. either you have to win very quickly likely killng the first desecration demon in the process, (rdw and R/G devotion can do thid game 1 but the sidboard removal will often shut them down g2&3) the other option is to control the deck. increase counterspells (essence scatter is viable here because the threats are mostly creatures) and save them for Desecration Demon and Gary, use burn to stop pack rat. once cntrol is established play aetherling or Jace, Memory Adept . guttersnipe can be a good damage source if you can protect him i have not played with him against black devotion so i cant make that call. anyways

also Pithing Needle shuts downNykthos, Shrine to Nyx

Pithing Needle doesn't work on Nykthos since it's a mana ability.

Im pretty sure Pithing Needle doesnt do that. Nykthos' two abilities are mana abilities.

There isn't any good non-basic land hate in standard ATM. You have Encroaching Wastes and Burning Earth both of which are terrible.

Demolish Cuz screw Nykthos xD jk, but my only way to shut down any kind of Mono Black devo deck is just having removal answer's to everything. Blue's no problem for me, just because Anger of the Gods clears their entire board 90% of the time, doesn't work so well for the swarm of Pack Rat 's So i've found the best way for me personally is to just run as much burn and removal as possible while still having a versatile // viable deck.

Yes, I do actually. I find that if it resolves, your opponent ends up royally fucked.
