I know Jace speeds it up X times, but is he a must add, or can a Mill deck function without him?

here is my deck list:

dimir mill

should I add Delver to the mix?

it's not a "must have" but in the right build, he can add extra pressure.

Yes Jace, Memory Adept is just too good to not run. even if you can't mill him you force your opponents to deal with him

will he speed up my build above significantly to merit dropping $12 atleast per card?

I'm not convinced Jace is a "Must add". Consuming Aberration can be just as powerful.

If your sole intention is to win by Mill, use Jace. The Aberation, the Phantasm, and the Guildmage all scream "I mill to cause pain.", rather than "I mill to deck-death".

I don't think Delver is a good fit in this deck... to few spells, making him unreliable.

Invisible Stalker with a Trepanation Blade would work nicely. Probably better than the Mortus Strider , the Undercity Informer and the Balustrade Spy ... stalker also makes for a great Paranoid Delusions Cipher target.

good points. replaced the informer, strider, and spy with 3 stalkers and 2 blades. more synergy now i guess.

I run both this and Consuming Aberration in my Aberration Control and I think they have two different services to the mill deck that may influence your choice. Consuming Aberration is a threat and win condition on his own, pure and simple. He beats and eats blockers and can even end games in one swing, and is more suited to the "mill for pain" approach as phrased above.

Jace, Memory Adept is also a win-condition on his own with his second ability but can't win the game as fast on his own, and his +1 ability is a powerful support ability. In a controlling mill deck with many kill spells and counterspells his +1 keeps you ahead on cards and solutions. As such, he is really strong as a support card, but over time, unlike the Aberration.

In my deck, I could EASILY trade Jace out for any of the cards in my sideboard or for more copies of the ones I have. your thoughts are now forefit
