Do these colors go well together?

Deck Help forum

So I kind of feel girly for asking this, but do blue, green, and red mix well together?

Not in clothes context, though;) In a deck. Do the three colors have enough cohesion?

I'm new to three colored decks and am still working on making one. I also am in the process of a White/Black/Red deck.

Epic Experiment EDH

They sure do in EDH. Riku of Two Reflections is the strongest one the comes to mind.

With enough lands, you can make anything work. Personally, though, I vehemently hate RUG. I like W and B, so neither is just painful to me.

I was about to take a red burn w/ green ramp and add counter with blue. I know have a Mono Blue deck and Red burn w/ green ramp. That's just me though. (never played three other then in EDH)

Thanks guys!

I would really like to stay with two colors, but everyone says three colors makes a deck a lot better since they carry more variety. And it seems as if the top decks on here are mostly three colors. So i thought I would try it out.

When in doubt, add White. I'm not biased at all... ;P

This comment may get me sent to Deck help, but which deck do you guys think is better?

Prototype: Borzhov Angels and DemonsorAvacyn, Returns! Angels and Demons

The latter is what the deck currently stands at, and the first one is what I am thinking about doing with it. It was my first deck ever, angel originally, and has evolved to this. It seems to be doing great how it is, but will the red version be better?

I prefer the BWR one, but with all gates it might slow you down. Quicksilver Amulet ?

Going three colors has both benefits and drawbacks. I prefer 2 color decks, but I play a lot of pauper, and good lands are hard to find in that format.

In casual, 3 colors is usually alright because the format is slower (can be slower).

3 colors in a format with dual lands is fine too. But if you don't have the $10 to put towards each land, then three colors becomes very difficult to sustain.

And don't just go three colors to go three colors. Every deck idea has a set of colors that will really carry it well. Find that color set, whatever it is, and you'll come out on top.

Take for example Faeries, like Cloud of Faeries and Bitterblossom . You aren't going to have a successful faerie deck in anything but blue and/or black. So a third color is really damaging.

But, say, you really like Mayael the Anima , and Mayael's Aria , and think winning with Feral Animist would be hilarious. Well, now you absolutely have to go three colors.

any combination of colors can work well, but mostly with three color constructed decks, generally the deck revolves around 2 colors and they splash the 3rd color for 4-6 copies of 1-2 key cards from the 3rd color i.e. some Esper Control decks run black just for Blood Baron of Vizkopa and a removal card like Devour Flesh or Hero's Downfall , but most of the deck is ran off counter spells and exile cards from blue and white.

But in short to answer your question, yes, blue, green and red can work if you work through it enough i.e. build, throw online, ask for criticism and play test.

How does the play test feature work? So far I've only been able to use it as a way to see how I draw.

It's just a way of "Fishbowl" or "Solitaire" testing. You can move the cards around and such to just sorta see how it would work bar opponent's interaction.

You can also open up a second tab with a different deck and "play" them against one another for a better idea.

I didn't mean play-test on the site, was talking about getting the cards together in real life (or whatever you use to play magic with) and actually playing with the cards and see how they interact together and against other cards. Sorry, didn't mean to cause confusion.

Play in real life? Who does that anymore? lol. I probably should have realized what you meant. Thanks or the help!

I don't know what format or archetype you are looking at, but two builds for RUG that I've always like are the Izzet Staticaster + Nightshade Peddler combo and RUG land decks like The 40 Straight.

I've actually made a pretty cool standard build in these colors. Chorus of the Satyr.

have you thought of Kaalia of the Vast ?, i once had an edh deck with her as the comander (deck was deamons angels and dragons themed obviously :P) and she works wonders if you can keep her protected :), also (just a thought) might be worth droping red in favor of green maybe?, allowing green mana ramping(Birds of Paradise etc) so you can get the big 'uns out and so you can include Elvish Piper :D

just to be clear i was referring to your brozhov deck in the previous comment not the RUG deck idea, as for the RUG deck idea, it all depends on the deck really, a few of the most terrifying decks ive faced have been those colors, from what i could gather that made them so potent was getting card advantage, and getting ridiculous amounts of mana early in the game :), things that blue and green do very well, and then using red beatsticks (dragons of some description in my experience) as wincon's

also copying a Utvara Hellkite with a Progenitor Mimic is just plain evil.... so its definatally a good idea to do that :D
