Does this trigger Heroic?

Deck Help forum

I have a rules question. :)

Can I cast Goblin Shortcutter (in my own turn) and target one of my own creatures, for example an Akroan Crusader , and trigger its Heroic ability? It's my own turn so technically, I wouldn't be able to block with it anyway, but the card doesn't say I can only target a creature that is able to block and there are lots of creature that can't block, (Ashenmoor Gouger for example).

Technically, if I cast Goblin Shortcutter it is "a spell that targets Akroan Crusader", so I'd think it triggers its Heroic ability, but I am no rules expert.

Anyone can help?

(Also, would a deck build around this strategy have any potential?)

Goblin Shortcutter has a triggered ability that triggers when it enters the battlefield. Creatures never target anything while they're spells on the stack. Heroic doesn't care about abilities, so nothing special will happen.

Also, you'll get the best response for rules-related questions by posting them in the MTG Q&A section.

No, because its the ability of the shortcutter that targets it, which is not a spell.
