EDH - Competitive Neksuar

Deck Help forum

As the pieces come together, I need some outside opinions on my Nekusar deck. What cards would make it more competitive? I know fetchlands and ABUR lands would make the deck stronger overall, but what else can I do to make it stronger? More specifically I need cards to cut. I was thinking Iron Maiden , but aside from that I'm a bit lost.

Oh, the deck in question is Razing the Stakes.

My brother uses Iron Maiden and Meekstone I always have to blow them up or they wreck me, I use Mayael the Anima as my commander.

Iron Maiden is situational in my deck. In several cases, it's been a dead draw for me.

I haven't played his deck so I can't say. But I know it messes me up a lot

If it helps some people, I'm looking for some cuts so I can throw in Force of Will and maybe Jace, the Mind Sculptor .

you should add Unholy Grotto & Riptide Laboratory to keep from paying the recast tax for Nekusar. I would consider adding some discard penalties as well maybe Megrim or Liliana's Caress . I like to run Forced Fruition in my deck to complement Nekusar. Additionally Fate Unraveler is like a mini Nekusar just for a little extra damage. You might get some more ideas from my build 7 Card Draw Showdown

I think Jace, the Mind Sculptor would be like putting a target on you. It might seem a little less threatening to go with Chandra, Pyromaster or Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded . Even though their ultimate abilities would be just as devastating.

Competitive EDH builds don't usually have an overwhelming concern with keeping a target off of you. Usually, everyone is equally dangerous. Jace, the Mind Sculptor would put a target on me, but most people in my meta have already come to fear my deck or use similarly powerful cards. Jace provides immediate card advantage, as well as other versatile utilities. Chandra, Pyromaster is a bit clunky, and seems to take a while before receiving benefit. I cannot see Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded ever being used in a competitive deck.

I think Jace, the Mind Sculptor is awesome in 1v1 but in a group he will be shut down swiftly.

I run enough control where he could still be viable.

I've dropped Iron Maiden for Lim-Dul's Vault . I'm still looking for opinions on how to tune the deck to become more competitive.

Updated again. I am really happy with this update, but I am still looking for some more competitive advice.

  1. Dropped Starstorm for Sensei's Divining Top
  2. Dropped Jace Beleren for Jace, the Mind Sculptor
  3. Dropped Teferi's Puzzle Box for Force of Will .

Dropped Evacuation for Glen Elendra Archmage - I wanted a method to counter something without being countered. "Uncounterable" if you will. I have not found myself often casting Evacuation ... I may re-include it later, but I cannot say for certain.

I am also thinking of adding in Riptide Laboratory .
