Hey Everyone,

I've been building a Reaper King edh deck, the problem I'm having right now is that although I have plenty of cards that fit in, I fear i'm too new of a magic player to really understand the synergy I need to build the deck.

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I would really appreciate maybe some 1 on 1 time to get a better understanding.

I just played against a Reaper King EDH deck on saturday at a commander event, and I have to say while I did like it, it wasn't as competitive. I was going with a Naya deck and wrecked him hard in the face. It is a very combo deck and you need to draw exactly the right cards each turn.

I played a few more games against him after the event, and saw him pull off his combos and it was very scary when it works correctly. That being said I can't remember the cards he was using or I would help you. But it works very well if you have good luck drawing the right cards.

I think i'll probobly post my deck, with optional sideboards. I have some of the staple Reaper King combos, Rite of Replication ,Conspiracy , and Xenograft , but some heavier hitters than the generally lackluster actual scarecrows.

Right now I've been thinking of adding "ally" creatures, to buff them selves and give me some combo's that don't require Reaper King, but using the above cards to proc it anyway for a more constant vindicate effect.

changelings are good in reaper king. Also make sure you have ways to deal with Avacyn, Angel of Hope . I have seen a few Reaper King decks get caught up in the destroy effects and not work around indestructibility.

You need answers for indestructible things like Avacyn, Angel of Hope or Spearbreaker Behemoth , but they need to be easy to cast unless you have a lot of mana-fixing available. Duplicant for example is colorless (and combos with Scarecrone and a sac outlet).

In that deck, I'd probably also use sac outlets like High Market to dodge control stuff like Control Magic or tuck like Unexpectedly Absent since your commander is so important. Things to protect him too, like Swiftfoot Boots and Darksteel Plate .

I don't now much about Reaper King 's specific winning condition besides abusing his ability to clear the field. I assume you'd run lots of changelings (because scarecrows are mostly terrible) and lots of tutors like Demonic Tutor or Worldly Tutor to get what you need. Maybe Conspiracy and stuff like Myr Battlesphere ? Citanul Flute ?

Post your deck and you can get better suggestions, I'm sure. There's lots of "general EDH advice" available on like Epochalyptik's profile (the articles).

I agree with Fairseas. Avacyn, Angel of Hope is essential to commander and must be taken care of. One way that just came with Born of the Gods is Excoriate . I am sure there are better removal since it's 4 mana, very situational(she has to be tapped) and sorcery speed but this is the only one I know of at the moment.

Swords to Plowshares is another good way of removing Avacyn, Angel of Hope or any other indestructible creature.

Tunnel Vision combos beautifully with any mass reanimation spell. Rise of the Dark Realms works well, Open the Vaults , and if Reaper King is in the graveyard, Living Death is perfect.

Throw a bunch of scarecrows into your yard, then bring all of them back.

First thing when building a five color deck, is to look at the land base. The optimal lands will be TERRIBLY expensive (ABUR lands) but the checklands and shocklands would serve the same purpose. Having a proper foundation of land eliminates the need for loads of mana fixing, saving space for more shenanigans. Being a five color deck, you have no limits on what you can do. Combo interactions, win conditions, resilience, etc, depends on what goes into the final build. The best way to create synergy in a deck is to look at each card and how many other cards it can interact with. More interactions=more synergy. Each card must also serve a single purpose outside of a combo, otherwise its taking up space and consistency. Sorry about the novel haha. The easiest way for me to make a deck is to throw cards together with a general idea in mind, and swap things in and out for others as the deck grows and develops.
