EDH Deck Prototype - Need some criticism!
Deck Help forum

Hi hello my merry magical friends!
Like a thread directly underneath mine, this is my very first venture out into the wild world of EDH.
My deck description talks about some of my combos, but the reason I'm here is the following:
I played 3 games with this deck, prior to it being completed (current list is 'complete', or at least a WIP.) It actually did pretty well against my local buddies.
HOWEVER, I sit on an empty hand. The deck is slow for it including race-car red.
The deck revolves around swing n' fling burn, but I just KNOW I can do something with all this crazy lifegain I built into the deck for no reason as well. Currently it sits there almost exclusively to serve as a buffer, and/or phyrexian mana fodder.
I would love for one of you veteran EDH gentlemen to school me on my deck's most pathetic shortcomings, as well as make recommendations on why particular cards in my lineup are total poo and what should replace them.

I threw that card in there early on when I came across it; problem is, being red/white, I never have much mana either. Unless I have the fortune of coming across my Land Tax .
Well of Lost Dreams is exactly the type of card I'm looking for, though.

well if your going the fling route then Hatred could be a fun card. pump your creature up using your life then throw it at your opponent for one big mass of damage.
Nevermind I'll leave the suggestion up but I thought it was an enchantment not an instant. If you use it let me know how it turns out but I don't recommend it if you can't use it consistently.

ok after looking at all the cards that involve life in R/W and colorless I have found no good results and Well of Lost Dreams is really the only good choice in this situation. sorry for the multiple posts.

Then you could add the amazing combo of: life gain + Well of Lost Dreams + Reliquary Tower + Psychosis Crawler .

Hey Swiftdeath, thanks for the effort at least buddy! You're actually thinking along the same lines I am. Check this. Moltensteel Dragon and Immolating Souleater . They do exactly what you were trying to do, and I've won two games with them!
Reliquary Tower is a good one, but I rarely have more than 3 cards in my hand, so I'm not sure if I'm just doing something wrong or what. Skullclamp is an answer to my prayers, but I'm just very limited in my card draw options.

You could go with Temple Bell and Howling Mine if you don't mind everyone drawing more cards.

I appreciate all of your suggestions so far. Temple Bell and Howling Mine scare me a little bit, but they might be nice to run since all I have currently is Land Tax .

Yeah so your best option is Skullclamp but a single card in a deck of 99 is hardly worth the consistency. You might do well with adding some swords like Sword of Fire and Ice and Sword of Feast and Famine or other similar options. I recommend that you don't add cards like howling mine as giving your opponent value could come back to bite you later in the game. Worse is if your playing against someone good then they will likely do what I do where they amass as much value as they need then blow it up to take away your additional draw and they will always end up a card ahead of you as they get the draw advantage first.
Other options I was looking at included Inheritance , Spiritual Focus and Bottled Cloister if your opponent has discard, Armistice , Nihil Spellbomb , Relic of Progenitus , Sensei's Divining Top , Diviner's Wand , and Scroll Rack . I didn't list certain cards because you already had them in the deck ex. Mind's Eye is a really good card as well. sorry it took so long to get the list and good luck with the deck.

Yo SwiftDeath, thanks man!
Inheritance is perfect, had no idea that card existed. Sensei's Divining Top is a little too rich for my blood, but would be nice to have, and Bottled Cloister scares me too much to put into my deck. Mind's Eye was a good call.
I think I may be too dumb to figure out how to use Scroll Rack properly, but a lot of people have suggested it so there has to be something to it. Diviner's Wand would be a really cool choice too if there were more red wizard creatures I could throw with Brion.
Any ideas on artifact search, that won't cripple the rest of my deck's lineup too badly? I removed Kuldotha Forgemaster early on because I thought he seemed pretty weak for the cost, but I'd like a way to get Skullclamp and Deathrender out easily, because they would work so well with Brion.

If you are gaining a lot of life and often have an empty hand, may I recommend Well of Lost Dreams ?
