EDH help

Deck Help forum

So a lot of people at my LGS play EDH before and after FNM, so I thought I would join in. Thing is, I've never built or dueled EDH. I am thinking about making either my Selesnya or Golgari decks into an EDH, so if you could, please look at both decks and then comment here which deck, who to use as a Commander, and any tips or pointers.

Thanks in advance!High Priest Verox

I personally like the idea of a token spam emmara deck, the only issue i have with it is that emmara is so expensive. but seeing as there is green in it it would be easy to ramp into her. if you can get the money for it or find one that someone would trade Doubling Season would be a good card to use. and if you dont want emmara to be the general Trostani, Selesnya's Voice would be another good choice.

Well, G/B is pretty fun and you can do it in multiple different ways.

Which appeals more? Reanimation, Sacrifice/Death for Value, Discard, big stupid creatures?

Well honestly, G/B can go multiple ways depending on which general you choose, and that only you can decide with who you want to go as G/B have many good generals.

As for your G/W deck, Emmara Tandris is a somewhat sub-par general. SHe,S not "bad" per say, but her mana cost and limited impact on the board kinda drag her down. If you really want to go with her, then i'd recommend some kind and decoy strategy, forcing your opponent to block a token with all his blockers while letting your other creatures slip through. I have fought mass token deck with Emmara Tandris as the general and i was not very impressed. They usually plays like a Rhys the Redeemed deck without a turn 1-4 Rhys.

How many lands is smart as a base line?

Depends on the deck, how much ramp, how many mana dorks and mana rocks. I'd say somewhere in the 30-40 range. My elf and goblin EDH decks have 31, my slow U/W control deck has 38,

Also, do they play multiplayer pods EDH, or 1v1 EDH? That changes a lot about how the deck is built and plays.

YouGotFranked is pretty much bang on that there are -very- few cases in GW where you aren't better off running Rhys instead of Emmara. I mean, you can put her IN the deck, but even in green, a 7-mana general is not going to do too much. You're going to ramp her out, and walk into a Hero's Downfall and then what? Pay 9 next turn for her?

You're probably better off getting that effect from a flipped Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant

I honestly don't know. I think that it's 1v1. Maybe a few multis

Since you sound like you are interested in making a Selesnya token deck, take a look at my token deck.

They deck was designed for multiplayer but it does blow away really slow decks. If you want to make a more competitive deck for 1v1 you probably want to switch the commander to Rhys the Redeemed since he works much better with the faster games that 1v1 encourages.
