Emrakul Commander???

Hey there folks, got kind of a tricky puzzle to solve here. So my friends and I joined a "Chaos Brawl" league. Instead of Standard cards we RNG'ed for our sets. After getting my sets, it was obvious that I needed to play Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

  • 4th Edition
  • Shards of Alara
  • Alara Reborn
  • Lowryn
  • Rise of the Eldrazi
  • Kaladesh

So if someone can think of a better commander that's great, but I think the obvious thing to do here since I have Emrakul in my pool is to make him my commander and then just ramp to 15. Of course it can't just be all mana rocks since there probably aren't enough good ones and I need to defend myself in some fashion. I figure the colorless creatures from Rise and the artifact creatures from Kaladash would be some good meat to fill in there, since we have to stick with colorless for a commander.

So let's see those ideas folks. I'm not much of a commander player so I really need the community's help putting this one together. Remember that it's Brawl, so 60 card singleton, 30 life, and a legendary creature or planeswalker commander.

Emrakul, the Promised End would be better because you want Emrakul, the Aeons Torn to go to your grveyard so his last ability is useless in commander. And Emrakul, the Promised End is better because there is a way to reduce his CMC by his own ability.

It has to be from the sets I listed. Also I'm not sure about that, old Emrakul is banned in commander because ramp, extra turn, can't be countered, annihilate is pretty busted, from what little I know of Commander.

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn isn't a bad choice as a single card, but you got two multicolor heavy sets with the Alara stuff, and Lorwyn can easily go multicolor. If you run Emrakul as your commander, you literally cannot use any cards from the Alara Reborn set--every card in it is multicolored, as a gimmick.

Since you did get the Eldrazi, I would suggest something like Mayael the Anima, who can cheat them out and has good ramp options, Sedris, the Traitor King to dump big stuff in the graveyard then unearth it out, before reshuffling if necessary, or maybe Thraximundar to play with Annihilator. With the sets you got, I think big Eldrazi should go in the deck, instead of leading it.

I am going to second legendofa. With Eldrazi in the running, Mayael the Anima is going to be incredibly powerful.

I have not done an in-depth look at the sets you pulled, but my gut says you might have a hard time ramping in colourless--after all, effecient mana rocks have not been printed in every set. Green ramp, however, is a common enough staple that you probably want access to that colour. Fourth edition even gives you such gems as

To show you how great Mayael's colours are, particularly with access to a powerful ancient set, I did a quick Gatherer search and wanted to point out the following notable cards:

Also, don't forget you have access to Strip Mine and Mana Vault.

I think you guys are right on the colors. I can just throw Emrakul in the deck alongside the other Eldrazi and random big stuff and then just fill the deck out with ramp and old power cards. Now as to coming up with an actual list though... I think I want a lot of big Timmy cards because of the commander, but I don't want to go too Timmy either and ignore obvious old cards like Land Tax and Sylvan Library.

jordybear2002: Emrakul, the Promised End is not in the sets he mentioned.

Alright, I'm going with Mayael. I'll post a decklist soon if anyone wants to throw out some comments or recommendations. Thanks for the tip on what Commander to play, as I said I don't even play EDH so it's an unknown format to me. Fortunately though I have plenty of Modern and Legacy cards so it should be easy enough to put together.
