Enchantment Removal

Deck Help forum

I am looking for enchantment removal in the colors of red, black, or blue in the standard format. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Those colors REALLY struggle with enchantment removal. That being said the best thing you can do is use permanent bounce like Disperse or Cyclonic Rift and then counter it when it is recast.

Swan Song or Annul can counter them. If it's an enchantment creature you want to get rid of, you have many options in red or black. Otherwise, enchantment removal is a white/green sort of effect and you're going to be pretty much out of luck. The few red or black things that might hit enchantments tend to be multicolored and include green or white.

your best bet is counter them from the get go, or bounce them then counter it the next time it is being played

there are numerous kill cards for Enchantment Creatures like bestowers, unfortunately, the Gods are indestructible so no amount of Lightning Strike s or Hero's Downfall can get rid of something like a Purphoros, God of the Forge

Turn / Burn works fine on the gods if their devotion is met. So does Curse of the Swine . Unfortunately, if your opponent knows your'e running things like that, they'll just stay under devotion.

Thank you for the responses. This was for my sideboard and I have decided on Disperse . It is mostly for Assemble the Legion however, that fact that it deals with the various other annoying permanents is greatly appreciated. Thank you again.

I would run cyclonic rift over that, as cyclonic rift can be overloaded for board wipe that hits basically everything

I would also suggest Cyclonic Rift over Disperse . For the same cost, you can bounce one permanent an opponent controls. If you have the seven mana though, you can bounce not only Assemble the Legion , but completely get rid of any tokens already generated by it.

I see your point. While I probably would never overload it Cyclonic Rift would give me an OS button that Disperse wouldn't. So I will make that switch. Again, thank you all for your insight.

Though it was already suggestion, I'm going to put in a vote for Annul . Great sideboard card.

The only thing I don't like about Annul is that you have to have it at the exact moment that the enchantment is cast while Cyclonic Rift and Disperse allow you the opportunity to remove them once they hit the field.

since you have access to black, another way to combat Assemble the Legion is to board in a few Illness in the Ranks . they can play as many Assemble the Legion s they like, as long as you have an Illness in the Ranks out (and they don't have some sort of anthem effect) then trying to remove Assemble the Legion won't even be an issue.

I hadn't thought about that. Interesting.

before rotation, my favorite card in any black deck, and a card i had to have in every black deck i'd made in that standard format, mainboard or sideboard, was Curse of Death's Hold . i think that was the card i was most sad about seeing go post-rotation. the closest thing we have is Illness in the Ranks now, which i suppose is good since black needs a way to take care of many little things since it can kill a lot of the bigger things.
