First EDH Deck, Need Help

Deck Help forum

I've been working around on an EDH deck as pretty much everybody I know is now building one. I enjoy green/black sac so I've been working on a Savra, Queen of the Golgari deck. This is it so far: deck:savra-sac-edh-comments-appreciated.

I'm mostly looking for any kind of commentary to help improve this deck play-wise and price-wise.

I'm a strictly casual player when it comes to constructed play, so I don't need ultra win combos or anything, I'd just like this deck to be fun to play with/against.

I'm trying to keep to a budget of under $40 for this deck, so there are some cards I'd like to replace to cheapen the deck a little. The cards I need are currently at a sum of ~$41 dollars, I can't show my trade binder because I only joined the site recently.

These are the cards I need to buy/trade for still:

1x Acidic Slime1x Attrition1x Beast Within1x Bellowing Tanglewurm1x Brawn1x Butcher of Malakir1x Command Tower1x Creakwood Liege1x Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder1x Golgari Guildmage1x Golgari Rot Farm1x Golgari Signet1x Journey of Discovery1x Lightning Greaves1x Living Death1x Mycoloth1x Putrefy1x Recollect1x Sakura-Tribe Elder1x Shambling Shell1x Skullbriar, the Walking Grave1x Skullmulcher1x Sprout Swarm1x Stitch Together1x Vigor Mortis1x Woodland Cemetery1x Worm Harvest1x Yavimaya Elder

If there are any cards I can use to replace some of the more expensive ones in that list, feel free to give suggestions. Also, I'm planning to get the Izzet vs Golgari deck for its cards, and I'm already planning on adding Jarad.

Any constructive criticism is appreciated.

Whoops, just realized I forgot to link any of the cards in that list AND it got formatted into an unreadable mess. And it appears I can't edit my post. Sorry for that. :(

You can make a deck under $40, but we're basically talking Pauper here. My Peasant edh deck is around $150 or so as it is.

It's tough in edh to reach that low of a budget point, because of the power level of a lot of decks and also it's 100 cards haha. That's why many commander decks are made out of people's general collections :-)

Actually my peasant deck is around $75. Made up of random janky commons and uncommons, and a couple solid uncommons.

Yea, I realize I'm being idealistic here, but I already have a decent collection as it is and I've been playing for a year now. A lot of the rare cards I need are cheap now, but there's stuff like Creakwood Liege , Woodland Cemetery or Grave Pact that still costs quite a bit. Considering I've been able to consolidate the cards I need down to $41-$43 is already an achievement for me.

As much as I hate to suggest denouncing one's creativity, the Commander preconstructed decks are a really great place to start with EDH decks. They have some really strong cards, funky generals and cost about 35, so are often well worth it. Otherwise, Commander is a bit difficult to go around trying to keep a low budget with.

Yea, I originally looked into the prebuilt decks when I started planning this out. Unfortunately, my local game store is already sold out of them. Still, the Mimeoplasm deck does have a lot of the cards I need for this, but I feel like it'd actually increase the overall price to buy one of those because I would still need some specific cards anyway.

The upcoming duel deck looks like it will fill in quite a few of my slots nicely without costing too much comparatively. Still, the commander decks are a valid option, and they're making more for next year supposedly.
