flyer issues in G/W deck

Deck Help forum

Hello everyone! I play G/W Selesnya standard, but have found it difficult to deal with flyers. I have Archangel of Thune in my MB and Gift of Orzhova in my SB, but it doesn't seem to be enough, the only flyers I tend to deal with are Nightveil Specter Stormbreath Dragon and Desecration Demon . I've figured out some ways to deal with the demon, but the other two cause problems. I'm pretty content with the way my deck is right now, so I don't want to change to much. My deck is How to grow your own trampling army and any advice on any of my other decks is more than welcome too!

Celestial Flare . Chances are your opponent is only attacking with flyers each turn, assuming you're playing your G/W deck right and have a army of ground-bound beaters.

I mean, there's always Plummet , as well, which isn't actually that bad right now.

Are you play Selesnya Charm ? It kills Desecration Demon dead.

Blind Obedience and Imposing Sovereign can slow down their Stormbreath Dragon giving you more time to deal with it. You can use Arbor Colossus to block it/destroy it. Plummet is still useful also. you can use Last Breath also for Nightveil Specter . and Selesnya Charm owns Desecration Demon for days.

i like Windstorm , the only problem is that it also targets your creatures that have flying

There is that, I've thought about it but I wanted to see if anyone else had any good ideas, and yes I have used the charm to wipe out the demon a couple of times..As for celestial flare, it might be good against the specter, but I'm not so sure about the other two problems.

@Stone_Munkee so stormbreath would still be tapped even though it has protection from white? (if I ask stupid questions I apologize, I'm still new to this)

There's a guy at my LGS who is going through the same thing. Plummet is actually a respectable option right now.

@AKR yes it still enters tapped even with protection. Protection only stops it from being targetted, blocked, or dealt damage by the source(s) it has protection from.

The pro-white on Stormbreath Dragon only prevents it from being Damaged, Enchanted, Blocked, or Targeted by spells that are white. Celestial Flare , Imposing Sovereign , and Blind Obedience do none of those things, so they bypass the protection.

In my selesnya deck ("You Mainboard Witchstalker?") I have Plummet for Stormbreath Dragon and the 4x Selesnya Charm I mainboard can easily deal with Desecration Demon .

Banisher Priest deals with all fliers nicely but you have to watch out for removal spells.

I also use Pit Fight so that Advent of the Wurm can take down Stormbreath Dragon . Your Nylea, God of the Hunt could do the same. You could also take down Nightveil Specter this way.

Also...

If you use Unflinching Courage and Gift of Orzhova then you can simply out pace your opponent and dont have to worry about their fliers. If you manage to populate every turn with Growing Ranks then you can keep Desecration Demon supressed and remove the threat he poses.

Anyway, sorry for double post.
