I think this is the most powerful deck in the format, after board nothing can beat it.
OK...
Try that.

Let's see... Anything that doesn't win through combat damage, anything that has Skullcrack in the sideboard, any control deck that can counter your Fog effects, and so on. If it truly were the most powerful archetype in the format, it would see play in the top tiers of Standard. Unfortunately, it's just too slow and easy to combat, especially post-board.

I play my Maze's End standard deck pretty regularly. The only decks that reliably give me trouble are mono-black devotion and mono-red devotion, due to Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Fanatic of Mogis . Guttersnipe also gives me trouble, if it's a very good deck.

There are somewhat competitive builds I have seen around Maze's End
but I dont think fog effects are the way to get there. There are a lot more midrange and aggro decks running around lately or at least in my shop, they all play too fast and too consistent for a deck like this.

Grey merchant only thing that does stuff, so board in Slaughter Games oh looks like im all fine. Control decks can counter my fog all day, they have aetherling? I have 16 fogs they can't counter them all. The fanatic i use riot control.

The thing is, with all those fogs you're at a huge card disadvantage. While you fog they won't just sit there twiddling their thumbs; they'll be getting stronger.
Also, "sideboard in Slaughter Games " is hardly a reliable game plan, especially against such an oppressive deck. Thoughtseize could readily get rid of it.

My D sphere would love to meet your pithing needle. And while their board gets bigger it just sets up my verdict that much better.

A guy at my LGS plays a Maze's End deck with a ton of fog and bounce spells. He found out quickly that he can either answer attacks with those or build towards his Maze win-con, but rarely both. And by rarely, I mean maybe 1 out of every 4-5 games. That kind of win-loss ratio won't win any FNMs

The board doesn't need to get bigger for them to have a better presence. Not to mention the Whip laughs in the face of Verdict. Assuming it gets past the Thoughtseize s.

I will agree on paper the deck looks iffy. 3 top 4 finishes say its a pretty good deck. Always loosing due to the lack of drawing a maze's end.

Probably the worst thing about a Maze's End deck is that most, if not all of the lands ETB tapped, which basically means you're almost always a turn behind.
Verdict does nothing against Indestructible creatures? Fog effects don't stop Magma Jet , Shock , Lightning Strike , etc

Okay.
Post-board, my Pithing Needle names Maze's End . My Golgari Charm counters a board wipe or destroys a Detention Sphere , if I haven't already Thoughtseize d it away. All your fogs are just feeding my Deathrite Shaman too. Then have fun dealing with my planeswalkers and enchantments.
And before all that, I win because you get disqualified for running an illegal number of cards in the sideboard.

@CrazyLittleGuy: Actually, it's not an illegal number of cards. When M14 was released, there were rules changes for sideboarding along side the Legendary and Planeswalker rules changes. A sideboard can now consist of up to 15 cards and no longer need to be swapped 1 for 1 as long as your deck goes to it's original list before the next match.

@ljs54321 Oh, huh. Didn't notice that. Thanks for the heads up! That's what I get for being nitpicky, lol

There's also my Melek, Land Hate Paragon deck. Yes, land hate is a thing in standard. Even post-board I don't see how your deck can deal with this deck. You don't have a single alternate win-con, and you can only counter instant spells. I would recommend adding 2 Jace, Memory Adept and 2 Crackling Perimeter to your sideboard. You have empty spaces anyway.
Oh yeah, if Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver or Nightveil Specter exile two of the same guildgate, what do you do?
Your deck is decent, but there definitely are ways to make it better and more flexible.
Here's my Maze's End deck if anyone wants to check it out: TurboMaze.

MBD would probably rage that deck, tbh. Fog effects can't save you from the likes of Gray Merchant of Asphodel , especially with Whip of Erebos .
