Good deck, or just playgroup gimmicky?

So, my deck broke top 50 today, as its ranked #46 on tappedout. It got 18 +1, and i have never seen this attention to a deck i have posted here. I got the chance to play the deck only once in my playgroup, and it preformed well (it is somewhat tweaked to be hard on my playgroups decks). Is this deck good outside my playgroup, or is it a gimmicky deck to mess with my friends? Please share your thoughts, and if you like the deck +1 (im aiming for 20!! :).

I'm going to say this is playgroup gimmicky, it's trying to be two good decks, u/w stoneblade and death and taxes without committing to either. It's nice and fun, but not as focused as either of the other two are doing, which is why they are strong decks. I do think it's fun deck using what's available to do it.

gufymike: Its inspired by D&T, but half the cost because it doesnt run the D&T mana denial lands. Its not close to be as powerful as D&T, put it in relative to the cost. The D&T inspiration it has is that it says NO! Not because of mana denial, but it denies targets (because of mom and spellskite, best when canonist is out as well). I know that is not as good as mana denial, but its a good alternative when you are a student :). The biggest problem is when you meet decks without targeting removal, but then you should get the jitte out pretty quick (hopefully) and win. I have not playtested this agains alot of legacy decks, but i tried against sneak and show and i won. Probably lucky, but that means i COULD win in a real game at my LGS :) If you have any suggestions for cards i appreciate it! (im gonna buy the D&T land suite first of all when i get the money)

I got 2 upvotes from guys/gals that read this thread (i guess). I just want to say thanks! Im at 18!!! Im really exited about that :) That and the fact that this deck is ranked as top 50 on TO is really exited for me as i see deck building as the biggest (and most fun) challenge of magic. Thank you :)

That is an expensive land sweet, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
is a pretty penny. (though I want one, so get me one!), but I can't say much, looking into some duals and ons fetches for one deck also. Good Luck! But moving on, I'm thinking a minor miracles package, Sensei's Divining Top
and Terminus
, the tops alone allow you to filter your draws better. Then the other idea is Iona, Shield of Emeria
and Linvala, Keeper of Silence
iona might be a bit too expensive cmc wise for this, but is a great shutdown. Fiend Hunter
might be something to look at. While I see and understand the use of the Squadron Hawk
, I'm not a big fan of them without the soul sister's in todays builds, but again, I do get the caw-blade approach, but they are what I would consider removing for any of these. FYI: D&T is one of my favorite non-blue decks in the format (I like stoneblade too much though). Also consider splashing blue for Grand Arbiter Augustin IV
and a few counters, like Counterspell
. This might be opening a whole new can of worms though. You might be able to get away with the shocks and a couple non-ons fetches to help, like Arid Mesa
, Marsh Flats
(as the cheaper of the group).

gufymike Im thinking of adding a top or two. Card filtering would be nice. I dont want to splash blue. Blue-white is my favourite color combination, but this deck has evolved from my first deck ever, a white weenie deck that was pretty bad. Mom is the only card left from my first deck, but it still feels like its somewhat something i built to improve it. Because of that i want to keep this mono white, its my white deck... Sentimental value :)

I like what its doing personally and I know some in my play group would hate going against it.
