Gray Merchant in B/W Mid-Range?

Thoughts on Gray Merchant of Asphodel in a B/W Mid-Range? I have been giving it a lot of thought and I feel he would be another cool 5 drop, since his drain is almost always relevant and can end games when paired with Whip of Erebos . The list I am playing that I want to add him to is High Baron of the Desecrated Council and I feel he could do some real damage. My only hesitation is he wouldn't play like he does in Mono-Black Devotion, where he drains for 6-8 sometimes, I would be lucky to get a drain for 4-6.

He is definitely a good option in B/W. You still have a lot of cards that give devotion and he can be a great way to stall/finish. I actually use him in my Post Reanimator deck and that is a Junk Deck. As long as you feel that you have enough devotion to make him a useful piece in the deck then you can certainly use him.

An example of what I did earlier today was My opponent was at 14 life so I cast my grey merchant draining 7 life off of the merchant, Whip of Erebos , Reaper of the Wilds , and Desecration Demon . then swung for leathal with my other creatures because he had one blocker and had to sac to the demon my reaper and Centaur Healer got through for the exact amount of life left.

Would you put him in as more than a 2-of? Also could you take a look at my deck and tell me what you would replace with him?

He's a very good card. I've been playtesting in my deck A Most Raw Beauty, and he can easily hit for 8+ devotion. He walls against aggro and can chump or trade with other midrange decks, and plays very well with Whip of Erebos .

The advantage of B/W is that you can run merchant, whip, and ghost council, which has powerful synergy with the whip.

@Krayhaft - I'll pose the same question to you, would you run him as more than a 2-of? And could you take a look at my deck and let me know what you would take out? I have honestly been thinking about moving Thoughtseize to the SB

@strateupjee I run him as a 4-of right now in my Rock build, and depending on how playtesting goes I might change it up. But I'll post comments on your deck!
