Gruul Devotion vs. Black Devotion: Any Tips?

Deck Help forum

Hey there,I'm looking for sideboard strategies vs. Black Devotion. My deck: Savageborn Defiance is pretty great against just about everything else. Black Devotion is its kryptonite. Between Thoughtseize and Nightveil Specter and other cards that mess up green, I have a very hard time against that deck. Any other tips would be appreciated.

Arbor Colossus and Domri Rade are two of the best cards against mono-black.

ENEyman thanks for the reply. I've thought about Arbor Colossus but I currently don't have any. I'll see what I can do to pick up some. I doubt I'll be able to grab any more Domri Rade as he's pretty expensive. Maybe I'll luck out and pull another. I could replace the Windstorm in my sideboard with Arbor Colossus but I think I'd need to side in at least three.

My bigger problem with Black Devotion is the heavy removal. I can usually dispatch Nightveil Specter with a Clan Defiance or monstrosity on Polukranos, World Eater I can even pull that off when dealing with Desecration Demon or I can keep it tapped down by sacrificing mana weenies to it. Typically my deck can deal some severe (usually game ending) damage by turn 6 or 7. What typically happens is that I'll play a hydra, planeswalker or Karametra's Acolyte and it will get removed with one of the many removal spells available to black. I worry that Arbor Colossus will suffer the same fate.

Is Mending Touch my best option for preventing removal? Should I consider Ranger's Guile as well? If so, what are the suggestions for how to side it in?
