It would help if we actually knew what deck you were playing.

well according to your deck description you win on turn four? so if you play he dies, if not then some Knight of Glory might help. Failing that use something like rootborn defences or Boros Charm and splash red? your creatures create a lot of value with tokens and counters etc so maybe he can't just mutilate the board turn 4 every time cuz some of your creatures will be too big. Or if he is targeting specific things then the charm will help.

damn people shouldn't use the name of a card as a deck name.....its just bloody stupid and unimaginative! grrrr. heres the card it was supposed to link...Rootborn Defenses

Mutilate doesn't involve counters. It gives a static -X/-X effect that lasts until the end of the turn.

Faith's Reward is one way to answer board wipes... there's another card with the same effect but its for all players, can't remember the name of it though.......

I don't see how Predator Ooze is relevant to the situation.

No. If their toughness equals 0 they still die even if the're indestructible.

I was suggesting indestructible as ways of dealing with direct kill spells not Mutilate , chances are good that you can kill him before mutilate and if not you should be able to recover quickly if you don't overreach too much.

Panda213, the card you're thinking of is Second Sunrise .

i dont think is that easy since the Mutilate text states that all creatures get the effect untill end of turn meaning that if they come back they still get the -1-1 effect, correct me if im wrong

Try Mana Tithe and see the look on his face when you tell him you counter his turn 4 Mutilate .

you can also change you strategy a litle, like play some creatures to attack but hold up the strongest so you can play them afterMutilate

Surprised no one has mentioned Thalia, Guardian of Thraben or Judge's Familiar . Either guarantee he won't Mutilate til turn 5, and if you have both, turn 6.

you could play creatures that always have haste too, that way a wrath is almost meaningless, Spark Trooper is a favourite of mine. It renders sorcery speed removal moot. also just thought of Legion's Initiative its PERFECT for your problem barring a little splash of red that is needed for it....
August 12, 2013 9:22 a.m.
@Ruric No, if they come back they don't "still" have -1/-1 because the game treats them as entirely new objects. Mutilate also doesn't have its effect persist past its resolution. Any creature effected by it is effected by it. That effect lasts until end of turn, but creatures that enter the battlefield after it has resolved will not have -X/-X

Mutavault or Moorland Haunt and u/w dual lands would allow for a constant stream of creatures. Also if you think he'll be sweeping don't overcommit to the board unless you feel you can win before the board wipe (which likely won't ever be true) if you can keep him from being able to get more than one of your creatures with his removal then you should be ahead.

@Devonin thanks for the clarification wasnt sure about that

Nevermore naming Mutilate is probably the most efficient way for mono-white to stop Mutilate in a mono-black deck...
Mono-black has very little in the way of dealing with Enchantments.
