I've made repeated attempts at building a Gruul, Izzet, Mono-Red, and eventually R/U/G burn decks. It appears that all the cards to make the successful deck(s) are out there, and I have a good chunk of them, but I'm having an incredibly hard time assembling them together properly enough to make a stable burn deck. Obvious cards in the lineup are Chandra, Pyromaster , Chandra's Phoenix , Ral Zarek , Zhur-Taa Druid , Guttersnipe . I've been trying to play around with the burn and mana costs, adding in ramp from the Zhur-Taa Druid s (and maybe some Elvish Mystic s and reducing the costs of the more costly spells such as Lava Axe , Blast of Genius , etc. I want to know if this deck is playable in a post-rotation build right now, and if it's worth trying to feature an otherwise mediocre card like Blast of Genius .
I just thought there would be enough synergy with Zhur-Taa Druid and Goblin Electromancer to make the higher-cost burn spells useful. And additionally that the ramp from the Druids and Mystics might let me play a Mercurial Chemister or two.
I thought a fun deck mechanic could be burn from high CMC's in the deck, but maybe I'm wrong on that.
TL;DR version:Wondering if it's possible to build a functioning deck around the premises of Blast of Genius /Mercurial Chemister
My biggest problem with the Chemister is that I can't find a deck for him without building one from scratch, and that's a problem. I have to build scratch decks for the GOOD rares x)

Since you have R/G why not use Clan Defiance ? It could be used as removal and burn

I really like Mercurial Chemister , he just so easily out-ranked. If post rotation the format truely slows down (I don't think it will that much) then it might become more useful. I don't have a whole lot to say about Blast of Genius though, it really should have costed five, or at least be an instant. I really like the concept though.
