Help with Golgari Build

Deck Help forum

Hey everyone, I'm working on a Golgari deck. I just built this yesterday, so I'm sure there are tons of kinks to work out. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think. Also help me get ideas for a sideboard. I'm also trying to keep it as budget as possible, so please don't just say 4 lotleth troll, if I could afford him I would run him.

My main goal is to amp up Vampire Nighthawk and swing in the air, all scavenging effects and soul-bond effects are targeted at him unless absolutely necessary. Considering taking Thragtusk out, he is a good card in general, but doesn't necessarily fit the deck. Thoughts?

Your deck seems to be a little all over the place. If buffing the Vamp is the goal then you want to have one or two ways of doing that (Scavenge is baked into Golgari, and evolve or bloodrush for green). Putting +1/+1's on your guy typically means having Scavenge critters in the graveyard. While you have a way to sacrifice ones in play, consider putting them there from your library or hand with cards like: Grisly Salvage and Lotleth Troll . A Corpsejack Menace will double your +1/+1 output. I'd run 4 Deathrite Shaman if you have them + 4 Slitherhead just to get a cheap scavenge critter out there.

KynElwynn,

I had a previous version of this deck where I did focus more on scavenging. I ran 3 Corpsejack Menace , 4 Slitherhead , 2 Grisly Salvage , and 4 Mulch .

I found that running Slitherhead without Lotleth Troll (which I cannot afford) makes no sense, because you have to end up summoning him and then he either sits there useless or you chump block for no reason. Sometimes he would get milled with Mulch or Grisly Salvage , but usually I would just mill out the non-scavenging parts of my deck.

I felt like having this much deck commitment just for milling was stupid and it greatly slowed down my early game. I would rather have mana rampers at the low levels and switch out the mill cards for Jarad's Orders , which I'm trying to get.

Corpsejack makes no sense without Slitherhead , and even with him it was underwhelming and only helped very late game, so I may try him at just one, but right now I'm opposed. Corpsejack might help savengers some, but his true place is in a deck with Primordial Hydra , Predator Ooze , and Increasing Savagery , not here. This is why I prefer soulbond effects, if I go +4/+4 on nighthawk and he gets killed then I can summon another and pair it immediately. It isn't as beefy as dropping +10/+10 when I manage to corpsejack on a Deadbridge Goliath scavenge, but it's ten times more consistent.

I completely agree with the Lotleth Troll and Deathrite Shaman , I would run the hell out of them if I could afford them, but I don't buy $10+ singles, either I pull them in a pack or I don't run them.
