Deck Help forum

I am working on a math/tech project where I will find out what the best ratios are for a deck. Can someone give me a hand?

Uhm well...

You could calculate like this if you'd like:

(L/D)*C=V

L=Lands

D=Decksize

C=Cards you've drawn in total

V=Value of how many lands you should have gotten by an average.

If you want to have 5 lands by 13 cards, you have to calculate how many Lands you need. (I assume it's a 60 card deck-size)

ex: (L/60)*13=5

dividing by 13 on both sides.

L/60=5/13

Multiplying with 60 on both sides:

L=(5/13)*60.

that doesn't work because it doesn't take into account how many lands you have already drawn. Here is a link to a website which explains the math of how to do this though: http://www.kibble.net/magic/magic10.php

Well, the probbability decreases to draw a new land card after each one you've already drawn and increases for every other card you draw. However, the calculation I just mentioned still stands for calculating the expected value of how many lands you should have drawn at after you've drawn a certain amount of cards :)

The value of how many lands you could expect to have drawn at a certain point in the game shouldn't be confused with the chance of drawing another land card at that same point.

I hope this helps.

It largely depends on what type of deck you want to build.

There are decks that have just one land all the way up into the thirties and forties. Some decks don't use creatures, and others are almost exclusively creatures.

Really, there is no single ratio of card types that is best.

What zandl said. Also, decks can have zero lands!
