OK, so when playing with my Oloro life gain/drain deck The Drain Train I seem to get mass hate and can't find a way to deal with 3-4 players at once. I am trying to get the combos moving quicker and try to protect my planes walkers better

Yes, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic tends to draw a lot of hate. A really effective way to deal with massive amounts of hate is to get to being a little faster your mana generation, using fieldwipes, and some group-hug strategies. My suggestions to you are cards like Day of Judgment , Cyclonic Rift , Chromatic Lantern , Gilded Lotus , and Mikokoro, Center of the Sea .

With Oloro, I have come to force myself into the long game. You're going to spend the early part of the game getting mana onto the field and keeping yourself alive. The lower costing board-wipes will help keep you alive, but in time you'll want to relying on exiling and tucking. If you play your cards right, it'll be your opponents' turn to start playing control as you plop cards down.

That said, things won't always go your way. People in my group finally started easing off on me once they learned the deck better, but for most part will target me first to protect their own field-state.

Good luck!

Embrace the hate. Drop a Winter Orb on them, follow up with artifacts that only give you mana, and laugh as they scramble to figure up a strategy.

You really need to go for mass artifacts and enchantments like Winter Orb or just leave it. Having one on its own is ineffective, and playing it in the late game is ineffective. It doesn't automatically tap down their land so the opponents will just keep land open for 'destroy artifact' spell and then they'll be fine. Obviously it'll slow down tempo but on its own it's not a big deal.

The best Oloro deck i've played abused artifacts and Darksteel. It was a killer. Biggest troll ever.

Yeh. I'm building an artifact / enchantment Winter Orb based deck at the moment. It's pretty horrible. The most killer thing is finding all the tempo plays like Overburden that can come out on T2, then following that with something like Braids, Cabal Minion fairly soon after. It's pretty easy to cause an almost complete board lock out when you force them to tap or lose all their land but to also sacrifice all their stuff slowly.

If you're getting creature hate, it's really easy to deal with -

Wrath of God , Day of Judgment , Damnation , Toxic Deluge , Supreme Verdict , Death Cloud , Phyrexian Rebirth , Kirtar's Wrath , March of Souls

If you want to make yourself less of a target, or less easy to attack: Grave Pact , Butcher of Malakir , Ghostly Prison , No Mercy , Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts , Propaganda , Crawlspace ,

ChiefBell you are an evil genius. I respect that.

He draws a lot of hate in every playgroup because he kind of just sits there. As the oloro player, it feels like I win the game eventually every time if everybody doesn't gang up on me during the first 10 turns. Also, with the explosive tutor/combo kills you can get away with early, people kind of want to play magic and not get drained to death on turn 6. So the best way to deal with it imo, is Taxes. Ghostly Prison Propaganda Dream Tides etc. Anything that causes a small cost to really put pressure on you gives you a lot of breathing room. I've also found there are lots of enchantments that hose Oloro pretty easily, like Erebos, God of the Dead Witch Hunt and the other "players can't gain life" thing. You want to be playing a tax that hurts you as well, so it doesn't feel like group-hate to everybody. I play dream tides because when I play something that doesn't effect me, somebody blows it up immediately. If it hurts everybody, people sometimes consider more about letting it stay there, because it might be protecting them from a huge green players board state. Temple Bell kind of effects are good for you too, because it takes the crosshairs off your head when you're drawing everybody cards. i like to couple it with Mind Over Matter so the card advantage eventually turns into killing everybody. Depends on your playgroup of course. What are you having trouble with specifically?

Sorry for the lengthy reply, I also play oloro edh, and I think it's good to trade information.

Here's an example of a really horrific stax deck build in Esper colours (shameless deck advertising):

I'll just direct everyone to my latest EDH deck so you can steal half of the cards from it?

Most of those I have already been using. My deck is a slow choke the life out of you deck. I should toss it up here. Overburden will be one that help pushes the opponent into a slow crawl state.
