How should I build a deck abusing keyrunes?

Deck Help forum

After Gatecrash is released, I want to make a three color keyrune deck featuring a playset for each of two keyrunes with three power or double strike (so far the combination of WUR is the only one that wouldn't work), maybe some fogs, and definitely some board wipes (Terminus , Supreme Verdict , Blasphemous Act , Mizzium Mortars , Bonfire of the Damned , and Mutilate being really the only board wipes good enough*).

However, there are some cards I could potentially put in there as well that would make this even a stronger deck: Cathedral of War , card:Slayers' Stronghold, Curse of Stalked Prey , card:Druids' Repository, Demonic Rising , Homicidal Seclusion Collective Blessing , and Grave Betrayal in particular.

*There is another option I have been thinking about: If I splash 2-4 colors alongside black, I could just use playsets of card:Curse of Death's Hold, Bitterheart Witch , Golgari Charm , Cower in Fear , and Mutilate and have more of a proactive board wipe strategy.

So utilizing all my research above and any knowledge/speculation about gatecrash, should I build a three-color deck or a B with splashes deck, and what board wipes should I use and which other cards mentioned should I use? Thanks!

I would go 3-color as it always seems more fun to play than mono, even with the splash. Having access to multiple colors gives you a much wider range of things you can do.

Definitely use Black and Red because Homicidal Seclusion and Demonic Rising are nutty with Keyrunes out. Also Rakdos Keyrune is a hard counter to Thragtusk .

I believe it was mention in the a MTG article on wizards that the keyrune cycle isn't going to carry over to gate crash...Charms are but Keyrunes no. I will see if i can find the link.

landgrafb, I enjoy playing mono-colored more actually because I dislike color screw very strongly. :P That being said, I feel like both options would be fun equally and with equal opportunity for color screw.

Going BR would definitely mean I can't use Supreme Verdict , so could any keyrune in gatecrash make losing that board wipe useful? To be honest, if simic keyrune isn't 3 power (or double strike) or if orzhov keyrune AND dimir keyrune aren't 3 power (or double strike), I won't be able to play a three color deck with it anyways.

Chinka, nope, Wizards already released the artwork for the keyrunes. The cycles that are not continuing in Gatecrash are the uncounterables and the hybrid 1-drops I think.

as for gatecrash my guess is Dimir Keyrune wil be either something with unblockable or hexproof. sadly i fear if this would be the case they me at most 2/2...

Sagi007, Yeah Homicidal Seclusion seems really amazing, but it forces you to attack with only one keyrune. That might not be a big deal, but if it is, I'd rather be using Collective Blessing instead. Don't get me wrong, I like Homicidal Seclusion , I just want to emphasize that it's not the only card I mentioned.

I doubt they would give it hexproof because all the other abilities on the keyrunes are combat related. I don't think we will see any hexproof, indestructible, protections, or even flash. What we could see is defender, double strike, haste, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, trample, or vigilance. (Possibly even a combination of two or more of those. Boros keyrune as a 2/1 vigilance, haste is not that bad.)

A 2/2 unblockable keyrune is very unlikely, since there is a 2/2 flying keyrune already.

well Izzet Keyrune has a draw/discard thing so draw on hit is an option but very unlikely since there is Stealer of Secrets and believe 2 others thouht cant recall names.

but anyway think of ceclusion in keyrune deck like this attack with 1 have buff on defence defend have buff.

as for future keyrunes its just guessing and hopeing. but intimidate seems viable option on it on your list thought i cant say im happy having dualcollor intimidate...

Also, they didn't reuse the keywords on the rings from m13, so we might be able to say that those are off the list too, but not 100% sure about that. That would leave us with defender, double strike, intimidate/landwalk/intimidate, and lifelink. Not to mention, there are other auras like Curiosity that could be watered down and slapped on a keyrune, like Izzet Keyrune .

I saw someone had created a door to nothingness deck and used all of the Keyrunes to ramp to the door along with mana dorks.

With keyrunes and arbor elf, you can door on turn 6, which is kind of too late.

OK THIS IS MY PREDICTION:

Dimir Keyrune will be an unblockable 2/1.

Boros Keyrune will be a double strike 1/3.

Orzhov Keyrune will be a lifelink 2/2.

Gruul Keyrune will be a trample 3/2.

I have no idea for the Simic Keyrune!

(If this is the case, I would either run Naya, Jund, or RBW.)

I gave the Boros one too big of a butt, but double-striking 1 power is good!

I think I'm going to try RWB and put Bonfire of the Damned , Blasphemous Act , Mizzium Mortars , Terminus , Curse of Stalked Prey , Homicidal Seclusion , Rakdos Keyrune , Boros Keyrune (double strike 1/1), Orzhov Keyrune (not spoiled yet), and Mutilate .
