How to Improve, Budget Decks

Deck Help forum

Posted on July 28, 2013, 3:13 p.m. by Draos

Hi a couple of months ago my friend gifted me 2 budget decks.

Deck 1
Deck2

I understand that both the decks are very lack luster, but i was wondering if anyone could supply me with ideas on how to improve the deck, especially since it was built a while back. If you have any suggestions please reply to this post answering which deck you think has more potential and how to improve it within a less than $20 price tag. Thanks!

Deck 2: Trepanation Blade on a Invisible Stalker is pretty sweet in a mill deck: mill for 1 land and take 1 damage/card. Also Duskmantle Guildmage s first ability can be pretty lethal in a deck like this. Essence Harvest is great with Consuming Aberration since it doesnt have trample.

May I ask why you think Deck 2 is more effective?

Ok cool, I definitely think your suggestion to add in Invisible Stalker + Treanation Blade is great, I dont particularly like Essence Harvest though. Any tips on what to remove to add these cards?

I would take out 2x Murder since you have plenty removal at a cheaper cost. Then i would take out 2x Wight of Precinct Six and 2x Vampire Nighthawk , 1x Paranoid Delusions since you need to have the stalker out when you cast it and 1x land. Oh, and Curiosity is great on the stalker as well, if you could decide on 4 other cards to take out ;)

Ok cool. I am sorry for asking so many questions, but I want to understand the reasoning for removing wights and nighthawk. Also are you suggesting a playset of Invisible Stalkers and Blade. Also do you think that the guildmage will be beneficial enough to have a playset of also?

Wight needs some milling to get big, and by then you are probably swinging with flying 5/5s and are able to cast aberration. Nighthawk is way better, you might want to take out 2x removal instead.

Well, the guildmage is a great card. For 5 mana you mill 7 cards and opponent gets 7 damage if you use his first ability with Mind Sculpt . If you have a lot of mana and nothing to cast you could at least mill 2 and do 2 damage for 7. And with trepanation blade on a stalker and the guildmage activated you do 2 damage/milled card. That adds up pretty quick..

Here is what I came up with, not sure if it is better

Looks pretty good. Maybe change Thought Scour for Curiosity since you have 4 stalkers. Card draw is the best thing about Thought Scour and with a stalker (or in some case phantasm) you will draw a card a card every turn...

Thank you smackjack. I will keep your tips in mind, but before I buy any new cards I am probably gonna look for some other opinions as to which deck is better. If anyone has some thoughts please comment :)
