I've started attending my local FNM. I have a relatively good Standard deck but I am lacking on the Modern side of things. I would like suggestions form this great community :P on strong Modern decks for 30-40 or the equivalent in dollars. I really don't mind what color it is, just as long as it survives :D

you are looking for a modern deck that is $40 or cheaper?

I believe that's what it says above, yes

Good luck. Most Modern builds, even the cheap ones, cost $100+.

Not saying you couldn't find and build one, just letting you know.

very hard to do, if you want it to be competive. I think even a straight burn mono red deck will run you more, but you can take a crack at it. Modern is definitely a pricey meta to be a part of.

mono red is probably the cheapest one you can get started off with a shell of the below:

Goblin Guide x 4, Lightning Bolt x 4, Vexing Devil x 4, Rift Bolt x 4

a few other notable inclusions: Grim Lavamancer , Searing Blaze , Hellspark Elemental . etc.

I think just those cards there may be close to $40.

How about the best value for money deck (if that is possible to calculate anyhow)

modern burn something I came up with, you can use it as a shell and build from there. $135 for a modern deck would be considered budget / cheap IMO

Uh, Khanye, Chain Lightning makes that not Modern. :/ On the plus side, that's about $44 less now.

Here are my current 2 decks:

Modern Goblin Bombardment - made to include no rares - Low price - $11.33
Terry's Merfolk - made to focus on aggro - Low price - $61.33

Both do very well, as the typical modern pilot is very into the groupthink decks. I've played the goblins a lot more, and probably won about 75% of the matches. It also tends to make people curse at me quite a bit when their $1000 deck goes down in flames.:)

As others have stated, RDW or some type of burn deck is probably your best bet. Here is an example deck list. Fetch lands are used to feed Grim Lavamancer and Deathrite Shaman s.

For a budget of $40, try something like:

22x Mountain

4x Goblin Guide
4x Keldon Marauders
4x Figure of Destiny
4x Hellspark Elemental
-----------------------------------------------
16 Creatures

4x Lightning Bolt
4x Rift Bolt
4x Lava Spike
4x Incinerate
4x Skullcrack
2x Flame Javelin
-----------------------------------------------
22 Other Spells

If you have additional funds, add Arid Mesa s, Scalding Tarn s, and Grim Lavamancer s.

You can thank me by using the left over $35 to help me with my EDH decks ;)

I completely forgot about Infect. Bogle is another cheap deck to make.

i was gonna say infect. the cheaper ones may be less consistent but still have a turn 2 win possibility.
