I need a standard deck
Deck Help forum

Hello folks. I need a standard deck. I really just need suggestions. I can play whatever color combination that is put in front of me. I have played extensively casual the last 8 years and have been to a few FNMs with borrowed Merchandise. I never really got into the hole standard shenigans but with Mirridion cycling soon and Ravinca in the horizon, I think now is a good time to just jump in.
So basically what I'm looking for Suggestions. It doesn't need to be Pro Tour status or top rated Tier 1 but I'm open to anything. Just need to get a feel of what to play. If you can contribute, that would be most Welcome indeed. Thanks.

I despise Nothing. If you want to know my play style? I'm adaptive. Johnny/Spike mostly. Flasy yet serious. I have played EVERYTHING (I mean everything. 8 years of play sir. I'm almost a Vet.) casual has to offer. I have no preference. My budget is not huge but enough to get the job done. My meta? No friggin idea. I have played each of the colors at thier worst and Best.

I recommend, a Birthing Pod deck in the Naya colorscheme, it has big beats, forces your opponent to side in artifact hate, and the creatures can vary and still be quite good.
Or a zombie deck that goes out fast with Gravecrawler and card:Geralf's Messenger, very hard to deal with and is quick.
Personally, I recommend a Delver of Secrets Flip deck, it is quick, hard to deal with, unpredictable, unfortunately, it is a well-known deck now so many might have playtested against it.

Go mono green. Not only do you get some of the most aggressive creatures and you get ramp. I guess no one else here has noticed that green has all the answers in Innistrad block and M13.
Artifacts, tokens, titan/kessig ramp are all hosed by Acidic Slime . Any creatures with flying are eaten by Deadly Recluse and Silklash Spider (a sleeper bomb sideboard card). Solar flare, frites, reanimate and any Snapcaster Mage decks are totally wrecked by Ground Seal . And in a mirror match Ambush Viper destroys Thrun, dungrove or whatever else.
A solid variant would be W/G flicker with a focus on Thragtusk . But really, just tossing together the best green creatures and adding necessary support for your meta should put you in top 8s consistently.

As someone who REALLY hates green (I can't make it work for me ever x.x)
R/B vampires are a ton of fun.Mono-white is real strong.and White/Black (angels/demons) is also a lot of fun, but takes a little bit more time.

If I was starting from scratch right now I'd build a whole deck around Geist of Saint Traft . Not only are geists really awesome (for some reason they always remind me of Icewind Dale) but lots of them are VERY strong. Dungeon Geists , Strangleroot Geist , being two other popular geist cards.
If I was going to build something other than the above deck I'd build around Sublime Archangel , card:Commander's Authority, Odric, Master Tactician , and Captain of the Watch . I feel like there's a happy medium in there between one beastly exalted attack and a swarm of counters coordinated to dismantle any defense.

Other interesting cards: Drogskol Captain , Phantasmal Image ,Elspeth Tirel , Lord of the Unreal , and more... I don't want to spam your thread but if you just look up these cards people will often comment on good synergies for them.

@deltonesan It looks as if he wants to get into Standard post-rotation and the Drogskol Captain is the only card in that list that will still be Standard legal once R2R comes out.

Never combine Sublime Archangel and Odric, Master Tactician they want you to do completely different things. Sublime Archangel wants you to swing with one. Odric, Master Tactician on the other hand, wants you to swing with as many as possible. Bad juju will fall on those who try to combine them into one deck.

Any of the decks in this article are top-tier and fun to play: http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=10610
Delver (Delver of Secrets Flip ) is pretty much the most hated deck right now, but it is quite solid with the right pilot.Of the lists in that article, I recommend Naya Pod. It has several lines of play and is the most resilient deck out there right now. But it's also the most expensive if price is any issue (mostly due to Bonfire of the Damned ).
If you just want a fun deck though, the UB Tezzeret list is extremely fun to play, and most people have no idea how to play against it. It probably won't be #1 anytime soon, but it's certainly my favorite. It will die when the Scars block rotates in about ~2 months, which is a big factor.

Ah, thanks for correcting me, Cirdan13. The cards that I posted in the post above will still be playable however.

Unfortunately I don't think it will ever be fast enough to be seriously competitive but Serra Avatar +Fungal Sprouting +Sublime Archangel would be a fun combo.

Actually, now that I think about it a little more, since it is W/G you have the green mana ramp (Especially if Birds of Paradise are in R2R like suspected) and with cards like Rhox Faithmender , Healer of the Pride , Goldnight Redeemer , and Seraph of Dawn to keep your life up or even raise it to outrageous levels for the Serra Avatar +Fungal Sprouting combo and with green you also have Rancor to push the damage from the HUGELY exalted creature through.

Well I seriously don't have a preference. Naya Pod looks fun and interesting but I want a deck that will keep me engaged as well. And it looks fairly bland. and expensive in a price range I don't think I can afford yet.

Well, you might want to consider playing Modern instead, it's a much more complex format and more likely to keep you engaged. But the only affordable decks are combo decks like Pyromancer Ascension, Eggs, RG Tron, or Goblin Charbelcher. Otherwise, new Standard decks should start popping up soon as people figure out M13.

What type of decks do you play? Aggro? Control? AggroControl? Combo? Alternative win conditions? What colors? What budget? What decks do you absolutely despise?
If you're looking for standard archetypes that will always be moderately successful, you have RedDeckWins (red aggro with burn backup), Fish (blue aggro with permission backup), White Weenie (cost-efficient aggro with combat tricks and sweepers), Reanimator (some combination of white, blue and black, with large expensive things coming from the graveyard for cheap), Zoo ("Best of the Best" red, green and sometimes white creatures with corresponding backup) and Ramp (Get something huge out fast using mana dorks and/or land manipulation, always green with sometimes a splash of red, white or blue). With Quirion Dryad in M13, MiracleGro (Quirion Dryad + nongreen spells in large quantities) will most likely be a thing.... this time they'll even have actual miracles!
