First;

How much money would you spend on the deck? (You can have cards like Glimpse the Unthinkable , Snapcaster Mage and Jace, Memory Adept . Or using cards like Mind Sculpt , Tome Scour and Jace Beleren .)

Which format do you want? (Standart, Moodern, Legacy etc.)

Which color do you want? (Mono-Blue or Black/Blue?)

Take a look at this deck Mono-Blue Mill Deck!.

It's my Mono-Blue Modern Mill Deck :D

Why Legacy? Modern is so much more fun! Just saying.

Black for defence? Doom Blade ? no.

The answer is Mono-Blue and Mana Leak !

If you are playing Modern. Every one is playing the "Fetch-lands". Then having Archive Trap in your hand is so fun!

Good blockers could be Fog Bank and Jace's Phantasm .

Good mill cards could be Thought Scour , Increasing Confusion , Mind Sculpt , Traumatize and Hedron Crab .

Take a look at Jace Beleren and Jace, Memory Adept ! They are awesome planeswalkers in mill decks!

If you wanna play Blue/Black, then you are going to be spending a lot more money. Cards like Glimpse the Unthinkable are very expensive!

Hope this helped!

Just ask some questions! I'm ready to answer! (Sorry for my bad english!)

Modern is a format where you can only play with cards from 8 edition and until now. It's a very fun format.

I don't like Standart because you need to buy new cards for you deck every half year.

I don't like legacy because every one got some OP decks, that is expensive.

Therefore I like Modern. I went for a Modern tournament with my mill deck. And I did actually pretty good!

Try it out! It's the best format :-)

I wish I had better advice, but any time I have played Mill, I have found it best to combine with other colors for the benefits of the other colors. UB is the most obvious, but UBW can be equally fun. In the current Standard, I think UBW is the way to go, but in Modern, you can probably get away with UB. Did anyone mention Oona, Queen of the Fae ? With a massive mana combo, of which there are many, this creature godawful.

I love Oona, Queen of the Fae ! You can get a bunch of 1/1 fliers off of her, too.

I found that once I had her on the board, I never wanted to use mana for anything besides her ability (except for maybe paying to use Keening Stone if I got it), so I think creatures (many of which are zombies) and artifact millers that don't require mana input like Nemesis of Reason and Grindclock (a little bit slow and easily counterable) are probably good. It is also easy to make combos with her using things like Mindcrank and Exquisite Blood . But to do that (effectively - which means consistently) you need tutors (which are not cheap).

I tried it out but couldn't get it budget enough or consistent enough as an EDH format deck. It might work better in some other format with a more focused deck being a possibility (and where more efficient sorcery or instant milling cards that don't compete for your precious mana pool so much are more viable) or with a willingness to pony up for those tutors.

Yeah, I love the Nemesis as well. I have some of the older cards, like the Demonic Tutor , but some of the newer ones are ok too, like Beseech the Queen , and aren't as expensive. I also like Increasing Ambition . I have found that the Diabolic Revelation isn't that great though. I like to use that in my ramp EDH, but not so much for any other format.

heres my mill deck for you to pull some ideas from. Millville

I would recommend Traumatize and Breaking as well

Be prepared to get beat down by creatures if you're going for a mill win haha all the creature control in the world isnt gonna stop a mill deck from taking some hits.

Happy Milling!!

It definitely helps to have board wipes, and global bounce spells.... I personally suggest Devastation Tide and Terminus , among others. I personally also like things that eat up the graveyard of your opponent, or uses it against them.

Night Dealings might work well with the many 1/1 black flying creatures generated by Oona, Queen of the Fae - especially if you are against a mono-colored opponent.

My esper mill deck runs a playset of Path to Exile , Dawn Charm (duel use as counterspell / fog and Ethereal Haze which stops attacks and prevents work around effects from creatures like Hellrider .

Other options Feeling of Dread and Silence which is a nice stall card until you draw into a board wipe or Terminus effect.

I also run Isochron Scepter x3 so that i can replicate effects. turn 2 or 3 scepter w/ silence, path to exile, dawn charm, Mana Leak , can buy you all sorts of time to set up jace's or other mill win cons.

I threw in my own standard-style mill deck to the mix of the discussion. It can be see here: Thoroughly Standard Mill-y. Honestly, the one thing mill needs to have is a way to board clear and buy lots, and lots, of time. I tried to figure all that out.
