Hey guys, like the title says I'm a noob and I have a bunch of cards I bought and wanted your thoughts on what other cards I should add in order to make a sick deck. My intent is to make a red white aggro deck.. heres what I have so far.
Creatures:1 Mindclaw Shaman,1 Silverblade Paladin,2 Fiend Hunter,2 Mentor of the Meek,4 Kruin Striker.
Spells:2 Cathars' Crusade,4 Legion's Initiative,2 Conjurer's Closet.
Lands:9 Mountains,9 Plains,4 Sacred Foundry,4 Clifftop Retreat.
What other creatures or spells should I be adding in? Please help a brother out guys :)
Thanks in advance!

It would be easier if you made a deck with the deck builder on this site. and stating what format you would be playing (standard, casual, modern etc).
You have a great mana base for a boros deck. And a lot of cards for an "enter the battlefield" deck. Consider Angel of Serenity and Zealous Conscripts

You need to decide whether you want to be red-based with a white splash, white-based with a red splash, or split down the middle. Here are some options for each route:
Red-based: Legion Loyalist
, Ash Zealot
, Rakdos Cackler
, Stromkirk Noble
, Firefist Striker
White-based: Elite Inquisitor
, Precinct Captain
, Silverblade Paladin
, Champion of the Parish
Excellent in both colors: Hellrider
, Boros Reckoner
, Lightning Mauler
, Nearheath Pilgrim
, Frontline Medic
For spells, you want a mixture of damage, removal, and protection. You can't go wrong with some combination of Searing Spear
, Boros Charm
, and Oblivion Ring
.
There are a lot of Boros decks on this site, each with different goals. My deck has received a lot of positive feedback so I will refer you there for an example of a slightly-white-based deck: The Sunfist Brigade
For an example of a heavily white-based deck, I recommend Whitey Tighties by whitechapel3055. For a more red-based deck, I recommend 60 % of the time, it works everytime (BDW) by evil_monkey.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me. I consider myself the resident Boros expert 'round these parts.

Thanks for all the quick responses guys!
CalciferDK, I'm looking to play standard constructed for the most part. I just wanted a deck that I could use for casual and maybe some tournament play on MTGO. I've used to play magic 10 years ago (think back to Urza's Legacy block when I learned about type 2 constructed decks..) and thought it would be really cool to build a deck around the card Legion's Initiative .
Slycne, as far as the cards I do have right now what other creatures would you add to the mix in order to give it a more balance? Because I was trying to make a particular deck and found that some of the cards are no longer in the standard block :( I liked a lot of the ETB effects of the deck I was building so I may want to focus around that. The build I was going for was definitely a Boros deck though.
Jimhawk, the deck I was building I think I wanted to go a 50/50 split of red/white. The deck I was originally building was a boros deck but like I stated above I think some of the cards aren't available in the standard block anymore. The deck I was building looked like this:
Creatures (20)
1 Inferno Titan
1 Mindclaw Shaman
1 Silverblade Paladin
1 Sun Titan
2 Auriok Champion
2 Duergar Hedge-Mage
2 Fiend Hunter
2 Mentor of the Meek
2 Planar Guide
4 Kruin Striker
2 Solemn Simulacrum
Spells (14)
2 Day of Judgment
4 Wrath of God
2 Cathars' Crusade
4 Legion's Initiative
2 Conjurer's Closet
Lands (30)
11 Mountain11 Plains4 Boros Garrison
4 Sacred Foundry
The creatures that couldn't make it to the deck were Inferno Titan ,Sun Titan , Auriok Champion , Duergar Hedge-Mage , Planar Guide , Solemn Simulacrum . Also some spells I wanted but couldn't make it are Day of Judgement?!?!?!! and Wrath of God .
What would you recommend slotting into the missing creatures and spells I have above? Also I know I don't have Boros Garrison in the original deck build and wanted to use Clifftop Retreat instead.
Thanks again for all the help!!

You confusing him with non standard stuff. Here is a build that has placed top 4 in almost every FNM it played in and high marks 5-2 super IQ finish My Boros Wins my son Chase is 8 and he can play this deck and beat me 50% with it and he cant really think in advanced strategic manor. Like antisipating a supreme verdict and saving mana for boros charm. You could win FNM with this. You will love it.

RedCloud2012, what do you mean when you say that I'm confusing him with non-standard stuff? The deck I posted was definitely not standard constructed due to some of the cards not being in standard anymore...is confused haha. I do like your deck design though.. my main thing with this was to have good enter the battle effects and a strong balance. Also have you guys heard of the card Thragtusk and would it be worth looking into?
Also, if you guys could look at my last post and maybe suggest what creatures I should throw in to fill it in that'd be great.. I'm trying to build this deck slightly on a budget.. I can buy some nice rares if needed but I would like to keep most of my cashish in my pocket :)
Thanks again guys keep up the constructive comments I love it!

For creatures: Boros Reckoner , Hellrider and Stromkirk Noble are all strong choices.
Boros Charm and Searing Spear will be worth their weight in gold.
May 15, 2013 8:58 a.m.
Thanks for the reply fluffybunnypants. How many of each of those do you think I should put in? Max them out 4 a piece?
May 15, 2013 9:23 a.m.
Are there any spells like Day of Judgment or Wrath of God in the standard block right now? Curious..
May 15, 2013 9:34 a.m.
Also I have 2x Reliquary Tower .. could be interesting to use?

Your Boros Charm count and Searing Spear count should be at 4. Because Boros Reckoner is flexible mana wise maxing it at 4 isn't a bad idea, but it really depends on the rest of the deck. Hellrider with it's 4 cmc could be left to 3 if you really want to, but it's direct damage on attack applies a lot of pressure. Your Stromkirk Noble count should be at 4. They are really good for applying early pressure, especially against slower decks.
I almost forgot, but Aurelia, the Warleader is fantastic in boros as well and is devastating when paired with a Boros Charm . Ash Zealot is a good addition too.

As many as you're comfortable having in your deck, I'd say at least 3.

For wiping the board Bonfire of the Damned is pricy but awesome, Mizzium Mortars can be overloaded for 6 or Electrickery for tokens. There's also Blasphemous Act which pairs fantastically well with Boros Reckoner
May 15, 2013 10:44 a.m.
Though not technically a board wipe there is also Terminus which does nearly the same thing and you can Miracle it to boot
May 15, 2013 10:55 a.m.
lol It happend to the best of us...damn that Blasphemous Act / Boros Reckoner combo burned me real bad one game
May 15, 2013 11:54 a.m.
Sweet, thanks for the recommendations guys! How many Blasphemous Act should I have, two? Same with Supreme Verdict ? Also I'm trying to decide between Aurelia, the Warleader and Ajani, Caller of the Pride . Which should I go with? Also thinking of rolling with 2 Ash Zealot .
Also DukeNicky I'm curious about what the miracle effect for the card Terminus would do?
May 15, 2013 12:41 p.m.
Also now that I look at Supreme Verdict , how would I get an island into play?
May 15, 2013 12:45 p.m.
nitemayor Miracle lets you cast it for an alternative cost if it is the first card you draw this turn, so if your draw is Terminus during your draw step, you reveal the card and announce you will Miracle it. this allows you to cast it for a single W instead of 4WW
May 15, 2013 12:45 p.m.
nitemayor in this deck you probably wouldn't. didn't look at your deck close enough before and just answered with the most direct answer possible to the similar board sweep, go with what you're planning with what others said about the red sweepers.
But if you really want to run it, Hallowed Fountain and Glacial Fortress and the Azorius Guildgate /Izzet Guildgate and keyrune/cluestones or Steam Vents and Sulfur Falls allow you to splash blue with a r/w base and not sacrifice a r/w symbol in your mana base. But really you shouldn't and the red ones + Terminus are good enough.

Miracle on Terminus means you have a quasi wrath of god for one white mana. I'd go with Aurelia, the Warleader . Supreme Verdict involves blue, so I would stick to Terminus or Blasphemous Act and keep it to two maybe three in the case of Blasphemous Act if you're rolling with Boros Reckoner
May 15, 2013 1:20 p.m.
OK... so Aurelia, the Warleader and Terminus and two Blasphemous Act or vice versa on the spells. I'll come back with a deck build next time I post and see if it'll hold up.

Hey guys,
The deck I put together is here Boros NiTeMaYoR
If you could give me some tips on cards to cut down on or what I should conisder putting on my sideboard, please let me know! You guys are awesome thanks for all the suggestions! Lets build a kickass deck ;)
May 15, 2013 2:33 p.m.
Just looking at it myself I feel I need more quick creatures... should I add in some Champion of the Parish ? Also where could I sub in Lightning Mauler ?
May 15, 2013 2:42 p.m.
fluffybunnypants says... #29
I'd stick to Aurelia, the Warleader . Terminus would miracle cast for one white mana. You can forget Supreme Verdict because it involves blue, but two or three Blasphemous Act would be cool, especially with Boros Reckoner .
May 15, 2013 2:50 p.m.
I agree fluffy, I want a couple of both Terminus and Blasphemous Act . Definitely keeping Aurelia, the Warleader as well.. if you could take a look at Boros NiTeMaYoR and help me out with my sideboard and some balance thatd be awesome! :)

Everything you posted was standard playable in fact you didnt post a single non standard card. that is why I said that. To be clear I was saying people who were trying to help the poster were naming non standard cards when the poster listed all the owned cards for the W/R decck they were all standard. So all my suggestion was a copable standard R/W build I posted.

Terminus cant be played by aggro because it screws you too and youd most likely be in a top deck war. Usually you dont design a hardcore aggressive creature deck with a reset button unless you can fill your hand and only your hand back up.

Nice double comment on my part, sorry about that. I'll take a look.
May 16, 2013 7:05 a.m.
This is going to sound stupid but how do you play Boros Reckoner ? Every time I pay three mana mixed between mountain and plains he won't come onto the battlefield... SMH
Slycne says... #2
While what you have there isn't a bad idea, you're focusing way to much on high end synergies of flickering to make much of an aggro deck out of that. An aggro deck wants to run ~24-30 of the most aggressive creatures, look for good power and toughness for their casting cost, it can find with a few removal spells to either get rid of blockers or as burn to finish off a player.
You can certainly make a deck around cards like Cathars' Crusade and Conjurer's Closet , but they are too slow for aggro. You want to be winning the game by the time those cards even come down in a really aggressive deck.
Boros Reckoner , Champion of the Parish , Frontline Medic , Hellrider , Thalia, Guardian of Thraben , Searing Spear , Boros Charm , Boros Elite , Stromkirk Noble and Lightning Mauler would all be worth looking at.
