Is 61 cards sometimes ok?

Deck Help forum

My deck THE BOROS ARE COMING! currently has 61 cards. I can't decide what to get rid of, so my question is this: is it a good deck building move if your deck has 61 cards instead of 60? Also, if you have any feedback on my deck, please let me know. Tips/suggestions are always welcome. Thanks!

Do everything humanly possible to cut it to 60.

Generally, I'd say it's ok ONLY if you're confident that each and every card that you have in there, you'll generally want to draw exactly as much as all of the other cards.

This is usually very unlikely.

I'd say cut 1x Madcap Skills .

Well, technically having 61 cards shouldn't put you at much of a disadvantage ;however, there's always the chance that having that 1 extra card made you draw the one you needed one turn too late. It depends on how you look at it really, but generally you're best off having 60

Patrick Chapin did an article on this (read right here).

I tend to agree with that, do everything in your power to cut your deck down to 60 cards. And if you can't, do it anyway.

I would take out a Tajic, frontline medic, or madcap skills. Tajic would be first to go though, imo.

I agree on the - 1 Madcap Skills by the way.

I don't like Madcap Skills outside of limited much to begin with, but after that I would send one of those Legion Loyalist to the chopping block. It's basically a spell on a body, but the 1/1 body is one of the last things you want in an aggro deck. It's nice when it's getting a big attack through, or suddenly turning on a battalion, but it's otherwise very low impact. Think of it this way, any 2 power creature is a 100% increase in clock, 10 turns instead of 20.

@Krayhaft: Good article! I haven't seen that before. The only thing I'd chime in about that I don't think I saw him bring up was how increasing the cards in your deck drastically increases the number of starting hands. I think this is important because it can determine whether or not you decide to take a mulligan.

"Awe man, I had to mulligan because I didn't have the right color mana."

Or:

"I had to mulligan because I didn't get any sideboard cards."

Or:

"There were no one or two drops."

...probably could have been solved during deckbuilding by just cutting your deck down to the minimum.
