So, right now i have Deathrite Shaman in my B/G midrange deck ((Linked below for relevence)), and i'm wondering if he's really worth the price, i can see how he's useful in modern, but i'm not sure if he's worth the $ for only standard play.

He's not great in standard, he isn't awful either though. You choose. :D

Really hes not that great in standard. you need to build around with cards like Grisly Salvage and Commune with the Gods him to get the best use out of him, like Pain Seer . He is much more useful in legacy, and was super useful in modern til the ban.

I play him in Dredge. He really holds the deck together.
Deathrite Shaman is worth a spot in any G/B/x deck's sideboard. He's great against control and can stop early game pressure from faster aggro decks.

in a deck like that, i think night howler is better positioned over boon satyr or in some number over 4 legendary creatures in varolz
i played a B/G reanimator for some free standard tournaments and it was really fun, used Deadbridge Chant
with Whip & Bow to make the perfect graveyard, assited heavily by DRS

yea he is good. Only reason he doesn't see more play is hes expensive and Elvish Mystic can be just as helpful in most cases. He used to be played lot more, but seems to have lost a lot of his popularity. Not entirely sure why. Certainly good in standard.

He's ok in standard but can't be used to his full potential. He was primarily exploited in modern with the zendikar fetchlands which made him extremely powerful. In standard not all of his abilities are that relevant. He's most useful against aggro and control but I reject the comments saying 'you have to build around him'. You don't. Against aggro, creatures will die (especially if you're playing black) and in these cases the lifegain will be welcome. Against control spells will be cast and he will put the pressure on. Every counterspell becomes lost life. Milling yourself isn't necessary. He's a long game play. Slow and steady annoyance.

DarkHero with rotation we lost access to Unburial Rites which made Grisly Salvage that much better since we could take a creatue or land, and still reanimate things vs now we cant use the combo to cheat expensive creatures into play while fueling DRS mana ability

I agree with 8vomit that you have to have some form of self-milling to make DRS effective in Standard (milling the opponent would work too I suppose, tho that's not up G/B's alley). Otherwise, if you want a dork, go with Elvish Mystic or Sylvan Caryatid , and if you want a creature that can feast off graveyards, go with Scavenging Ooze .
The reason it was so broken in Modern was due to the widespread use of fetch lands (ex. Misty Rainforest
), which made using the ramp ability easy, but getting lands into the graveyard in Standard requires a little work.
Also, he was better during the Innistrad-RTR Standard due to the prevalence of Flashback, Snapcaster Mage , Reanimator decks, etc. There were plenty of top decks that were shut down by DRS, but not anymore. Decks that utilize the graveyard in the RTR-Theros Standard are few and far between, as even MBD rarely uses Whip of Erebos these days.

He also sees play in legacy. Which is part of the price.
