Is it a bad idea to use swan song in a deck where part of your strategy relies on being able to hit the enemy with some 1/1 flyers?
I plan on using some in my deck Song and Dance where part of my offensive relies on being able to proliferate Musician 's music counters using Thrummingbird .

realized I didn't link the card. Swan Song

Judging from a quick once over I think you'll end up giving your opponent a 2 for 1 more often than not. I would avoid it unless you can reliably pump your fliers.

Swan Song is just a really useful spell. Independent on how you plan to win, because it's not about giving your opponent a creature, it's about denying them a win. This is basically an anti-control spell. Most control decks run about 10-12 creatures. The rest are Instant, Sorcery, and Enchantment spells. Swan Song does not help them. They don't want that creature. They want their spell. There are so many Bestow creatures too, that you can prevent both the Aura from entering, and a second creature from entering, since the Aura becomes a creature when the target leaves the battlefield. Or, to put it another way...

Thoughtseize and Swan Song = CMC 1Both= Restricted targeting (Thoughtseize can't target a landBoth= Drawback of dubious nature (2 life versus your opponent having a 2/2 Flyer)Swan Song = Instant, while Thoughtseize = Sorcery (Faster Swan Song )Swan Song is A DOLLAR!Thoughtseize is 16 DOLLARS!I have two full playsets.

To paraphrase a genius movie... "I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Good point on the good qualities of Swan Song , looking at it that way yeah it is definitely worth being able to mess up their game plan, and I can always just throw a music counter on the flyer as well.

Thanks for your help both of you.
