Is Witchbane Orb and Asceticism a good enough defensive combo?

I'm running an exalted bant deck deck:exalted-bant-let-our-powers-combine and I'm up against a Mill/Exile deck and a Vampire Life Drain deck and I was wondering if Witchbane Orb and Asceticism were good enough to defend against them if not what do you guy's recommend?

MTG Q&A section is meant for rules questions only. This should be moved to the forums.

The Q&A is meant for rules-related questions. Deck discussion belongs in the Deck Help forum. I'll move this thread for you.

Witchbane Orb would certainly stop a lot of mill and drain effects because most of those kinds of effects target you. You might also consider Leyline of Sanctity, which has the potential to start in play and is playable in your colors if you draw into it. The downside is the mana cost (if you don't start with one on the field).

Asceticism is kind of expensive, but it works. I guess its power depends more on how long you can afford to wait for the protection and regeneration effects to become available.

Thanks for the advice, and again sorry about earlier. Is there another card like Asceticism but without the regeneration that would make it less to play?

Not really. Most of the global hexproof/shroud effects are on expensive permanents. There are cards like Plaxmanta, which confer one-turn buffs.

you could run some difficult to kill creatures in your colors Geist of Saint Traft and Sigarda, Host of Herons.

Or if you don't want to do it like that you could make your deck totem armor based, so they have two lives, increases survivability and hits harder. Bear Umbra and others.

I think the totem armor idea is pretty neat I may have to adapt my deck to incorporate it and run a few test plays with it, thanks for the advice.
