Izzet Deck Card Choices

Deck Help forum

I'm a casual player putting together a spellthrowing deck. The primary colors would be blue/red, though splashing is a definite possibility. This deck would basically function as a control deck-using bounce and removal to protect itself- in the early game, while filtering and digging heavily through the library for lands and using tools such as Elixir of Immortality to recycle the graveyard. Once all the lands are on the battlefield the digging spells are exiled (Preferably via flashback) leaving a deck chock full of burn, removal, bounce, and draw.

I very much like direct damage spells (For creatures or players) and card advantage. There are a few cards I know I'm going to include, like Mindmoil and Niv-Mizzet. I need help with the rest of the deck. I'm not much of a free-rein deck constructor. I'd welcome any and all suggestions.

Definite includes:Niv-MizzetDjinn IlluminatusMindmoilGelectrode (x4)Maybeboard:Prophetic BoltFaithless LootingDesolate LighthouseForbidden AlchemyCrystal Ball

Any kinds of suggestions are appreciated, I'm basically building this from the ground up.

Preordain and Ponder are great for card advantage. As for burn, Banefire , Lightning Bolt , and Bonfire of the Damned are all nice cards

also, for flashback digging you can use Think Twice and Snapcaster Mage

Snapcaster's a great idea for flashing back the digging spells, thanks!

Bolt's definitely going in, and I forgot to add Comet Storm in as the x-spell.While Bonfire is really cool, I'll be drawing so many cards I'll never miracle it. I may still give it a go, double x isn't too bad for that effect.

yea if you can set it up with ponder or use ponder to look ahead and then dig then it won't harm it. But you can also (for casual) use Brainstorm

For the purposes of this deck, I actually prefer Preordain over Brainstorm, simply because Brainstorm can't send cards to the bottom of the deck.

Brainstorm is used inconjunction with fetch lands such as Scalding Tarn to reshuffle bad cards from hand and topdeck

I understand that, but given the way I've planned to make this deck work I'd rather have more normal lands than pay life (A very valuable resource in spellslinger decks). For my purposes preordain is almost as good as brainstorm, and it doesn't even rely on fetches to get those annoying cards away. There will be more draw:discard effects in the final version, so I don't anticipate dead cards being a problem.
